I am pretty pleased. I am close to useing 225+ lbs in working sets on squats. I define "working sets" as sets where I do more than 3 reps per set. YEHAW

Thought I post my mental state in here. I feel positive. I feel good about me and my family. I also feel extremely gulity. I feel like I am somehow not mourning enough or hard enough for my son Gabe. How Fuped is that? I feel strong and yet so weak at the same time. How is that possible?

Thanks man that means a lot to me. I just feel sort of lost in terms of how I am susposed to feel for Gabe. Do not get me wrong I am heartbroken about his loss....but I do not feel like I am in mourning if that makes sense?

Great progress man. I agree that everyone mourns in their own way so there's no right or wrong. Living to the fullest and being happy for what you have is a great way to celebrate life.

when are you going to post pictures of the new you? :)

CHANGE UP: Prelude to WS Training.

Ok, I am going to start and end this week with a slight change in over all workout. I am droping both DL and Flat bench and Sq from rotation. This is in prep for a West Side Routine I plan on starting in AUG. Ok, I am doing chest tonight and then off for about 11 days. Reason is that I am leaving town the 4th of July. And my back needs to heal. Also a reason to dump lower back trainig till the 10th of July.
Starting with tonights workout for Chest I will do DB presses with a slight incline. Then BB Incline Presses. I will go for 8 sets. Then some Flat bench Flyes (light enough to complete 10 reps each).

Triceps will start with dips, SK, then CGB

For legs I will be doing light box squats/GM and SDLD and ham curls and maybe some leg presses.

Back will be BOR, face pulls, LAt pull downs and chins

Whew. In Aug I will start a modified WS approach. Designed with less volume and only 3 days a week with Rotating ME days each week.

Ok took off the last 9 days. Feeling rested and chomping at the bit to get back to it. I have 3 weeks give or take and then I am starting a WS routine. I want to hit the following goals. #1 is to increase my over all cardio fitness. That is going to be done by bike riding and light jogging. #2 is increasing my maxes to the following-DL405x1 (would like to hit a tripple with that weight) bench 315x1 Sq 455 (this is long term goal).
Short term (meaning in next month to two) is to hit 350 on sq, 275x1 on Bench and 385x1 on DL.

Today is the day. For the next three weeks I am preparing my body for power lifting, this week is a light week....all sets 8-10 reps. next week will be heavier..all sets 6-8, then 3rd week-3-6 reps. I am still not going to do flat bench for at least these 3 weeks. Then will cycle it back in. Instead I will use DB bench press. Now DL either till after the 3 week mark...will do GM and hypers.

Changing of the guard:

A few years ago I found a weight belt that actually fit my more than 50 in waist. I jumped at the chance to buy it. That was the one I used for the last 2-3 years. AS I lost weight I also of course lost size. As time went on I need a smaller and smaller belt. I was at the point where I had to make new holes almost weekly. I got to the end of that as i ran out of room to make holes. I knew it was time to get a new belt.

I hated to get one. IT seemed to be cheating one the old one. But the fact was the old one was failing me on my max lifts. So I went to day and got a new smaller version of the old one.

If you asked me a year ago how far i could run I would have laughed at you. Last night I hit the fast time ever for 2 miles 13:18. I was shocked, not to mention winded. It felt great and regardless of what some folks think my having the gastric bypass was the best decision I have ever done.

You know after Gabe passed, I thought so many things. Now i look back at what I thought was hardship and realize 99% of them were meaningless. I now feel so bad for thinking that my sons are bad or that i am tried of them and they need to go to bed etc. I so totaly value them nd my family and my life that it seems weird. Gabe dying was the worst and best thing that happened to me.

Hey Mutt, it's been a while since I checked out this post. It's really interesting to go back and see just how far you've come since you started this post...it's been a hell of a ride since then...in sooo many ways. I think the surgery/weight loss has been a catalyst for many changes both physically and mentally and it looks like it's been life changing for you. You're losses, despair, gains and progress have all blessed you with a better life. Isn't life an incredible journey..enjoy the ride:big_smile:

I am going to start to record how I am feeling here hopefully day to day

8-9-07: I am tired and feeling down. I miss gabe today badly. Not sure why. Maybe lack of sleep again. I dread driving home.

FIRST GOAL REACHED
I set a goal shortly after my surgery. It was during the very first DL workout and I could hardly get 5 reps at 135. I promised I would reach 405 by the one year mark. WEll that is 2 months away and I hit it last night! I am offically in the 400lb club again BUT at a BW of 230 not 315!!!!!!!!

For those of you that don't already know, Mutt will be competeing in a strongman sometime in late october (most likely the 20th). He will be a MIDDLEWEIGHT (believe it or not).

This post is so everyone on here can pressure him into making sure he does it.
