OK kiddies , Elaine and I maintained a semi sensible diet through the holidays. It wasn't easy. Her 84 year old mom fixes everybodys favorite food and desert for the Christmas meal. There are 16 people now so you can imagine the spread.

This morning Elaine and I filled out new goals, tweaked the FT plans and are jacked to start back up Sunday afternoon. We smoke our last cigars Sunday and I expect to be insane for a couple of weeks. Unlike our illustrious ex president we DO inhale.

Beware fellow challengers, the last 6 weeks of this here challange the gloves come off. Perfect form and cardio will be our top priorities. I may be able to talk her into joining the next challange if there is one. The geezers may humiliate the pups so much in this one that they may become couch potatoes:0 :}

I am with you 100% Charlie. We will show the pups that they are couch patates (french for potatoe)!
Ok so here is what I indulged my face with yesterday.
2 glasses of wine-walnuts,almonds,etc, (had to crack them so I ate less..bummer). Roast prime rib of beef (pure canadian), buckwheat and bowtie Pasta, Fried asparagus in garlic butter, more prime rib, Heinekin.
Dessert was tartaluci (little homade italian cookies) birthday cake for the 93 candles for the dadinlaw, chocolates. Oh ya, and don't feel a bit of guilt yet!
I worked it off this morning, by shoveling 8 inches of wet snow, then went to the gym!

Turkey-ham-potato-green beans-banana bread-shrimp(not fried)-tomatoes-cottage cheese-califlower & broccili-walnuts (very few) had to crack open with buttcheeks haha just kidding! Offered PBR; turned it down, drank water instead. Pumpkin Pie and small piece of Pecan Pie(killer), turned down peanut butter, chocolate and peanut butter fudge. Had some wheat thins with pepperjack cheese instead. Can't forget the homemade noodles and chicken combo, man that was good...My belly button was an inny, but now it is an outy...Prime Rib and a Heinekin sound damn good, mmmmmmmmmm, maybe for New Years Eve....

Well, back at it!!!

Thought I would check in since it's been almost a month. Basically...I'm the same except I lost 1/4" on each of my calves. This doesn't make sense to me at all...but okay. Last week was difficult...tooooo busy and ate cheese burgers a few times and no cardio. Although, I did increase my weights which is great. We have 2 more months...right?

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I should also check in, for those who haven't looked at my training log, I have been keeping it in there. 4 weeks in, 4 lb. loss. Perfect, exactly the plan for me. I am right on schedule. Veins are starting to show nicely(sandy doesn't care too much for them..LOL), the vallies(between the abs)are starting to get pretty noticeable, as are the obliques. I am really concentrating on "quality" of muscle right now,(even moreso than ever before, much more detail), want to be the best I have ever been. Glad to hear all is going well for everyone. That is my update.

New Years Day ... Happy New Year All. Well, The weight is now down about 2lbs. BF% which is my main thrust is down 2 points per calipers.

Since Muttersnapper loves to bust my ass on being a geriatric... I will tell you all a fact Elaine and I have discovered when we read the manual that came with the BF calipers. As most of you know you check BF on 4 spots on the body. You add up the metric numbers and use a chart to obtain your %. Well the given metric number is factored by age. My metric number was 28 this morning for the 4 spots.
The chart gives me a BF % of 17 as a 50 year old man.

A male age 18-29 with a metric number of 28 would be 12.1 BF%

A male age 30-39 with a metric number of 28 would be 15.5% BF.

A male age 40-49 with a metric number of 28 would be 16.5% BF.

Not only do we get older and have to work harder for our gains, THE DAMN CHART DISCRIMINATES!!!!!!

How bad does that suck?? Just an interesting little side note folks.

BTW Elaine has dropped 6% body fat in about 2 months. She is looking downright svelt.

A 7 point bf test is much more indicative and real than a 3 or 4 point.

Our calipers don't give a method for a 7 point test or the charts Ron but I do want to thank you for the cold water in the face this new years day. LOL . The measure points are front and back of the upper arms , just below the shoulder blade and to the side of the navel. What are the other three points and so you know of an on line chart we can use to interpolate the %?

Ivan the sun came up over a clear blue sky and a glassy calm lake this morning and we will don our bonets, open the parisol and row to Buster Boyd bridge later today. When I built Elaines lil blue boat, I installed dual oarlocks so we could both row. Temp will get to 60 degrees today and they are calling for low 70s tomorrow. We will row row row our boat vigorously up the lake. Shovel that snow guy.

HNY

HAhaha Charlie, rub it in, just rub it in! I don't have snow to shovel as it rained and turned the walkways into skating rinks. It's -12 here. I'm ready for my 2nd pig out (Turkey Dinner).
BTW, the other 3 points are lower back, behind the thigh,
and behind the calf.
Have a nice day.

Lower back just above the waist line but closer to the side.
Sorry don't know of any online charts, perhaps Ron knows of a place. I use the electronic Tanita, but just as a guide.
If you keep doing it the same way that is ok too. I'ts just a number to base from. Don't get hung up on it.

Yeah, I kind of figured that as long as I used the same method I was at least getting a usable measurement. Its the cabinet maker in me that needs accuracy. Never seen the "Cabinet makers do it with precision" bumper sticker? Goes along with "Divers do it deeper"!!!!

Charlie, I did not mean anything but help. A 7 or 9 point test should yeild you much better results than a 3 or 4 point test.

Chest: A diagonal skin fold taken halfway between the anterior axillary line (crease of the underarm) and the nipple.

2. Abdomen: A vertical skin fold taken one inch lateral to the umbilicus (belly button).

3. Thigh: A vertical skin fold taken midway between the greater trochanter of the femur and the patella on the front of the thigh.

4. Subscapular: The subscapular fold is raised on a diagonal one centimeter below the inferior angle of the scapula.

5. Triceps: The triceps skin fold is measured midway between the posterior-lateral aspect of the acromion process of the scapula and the olecranon process of the ulna.

6. Midaxillary - this vertical fold should be taken at the level of the xiphoid process on the midaxillary line. (side of chest, almost under the arm)

7. Suprailiac - this diagonal fold should be measured in line with the natural angle of the iliac crest. The measurement should be taken along the anterior axillary line just above the iliac crest. (lower abdominal)

8.Bicep – A vertical fold should be measured mid bicep in the center of the biceps brachii.

9. Medial Calf: A vertical fold should be measured midway up the gastronemious muscle 2 inches above the Calcaneal (Achilles) Tendon (on the inside of your calf near the soleus muscle).

Any 7 of the 9, or all 9. Good luck.

Ron you are always helpful. I just usually need a medical dictionary, periodic table and 6 or 8 websights to figure out what you said. I may be able to figure out the 7 point test that Ivan mentioned but I still need a source to find how to calculate the %.

Shavonde and Andrew welcome. May the buffalo be with you.

Charlie...the final calculation of BF% is derived from the sum of the measurements in millimeters.

Here is the formula...Body density=1.1098-(.0008267x(sum of 3 0r 7 skin folds)+(.0000016xsum of 3 0r 7 skin folds^2)-(.000257xage)...this will give you body density. Then take the number you get from this and plug it into this formula, and voila', BF%.

BF%=x100

By the way, ^2 is to the second power

As of today I must admitt I gained BF%. Oh well, thats what holidays are for. I am at a whole 25%. Not good for this guy. Well we do have 2 months and thats ok. Charlie you at 35%, or 19? By the time you take all those measurements, you will have gained!!! Buy an electronique fat scale.
Not because it is more accurate but, it just gives you the info.

Ron, we will use the formula next week when we check. You are a smart guy. We will need a navigator when we take offon our trip in a couple of years. Want the job?

Ivan it was 17% but you are right it looks like it will be 38% by the time I add in all those tests. We will probably look at electronic scales eventually.

Muttersnapper , sorry you've been ill. I guess its a "youth thing" You will outgrow it. Elaine and I both swim like fishes so we won't sleep with the fishes.

You will not have gained by doing more sights, on the contrary, you will come out better the more you have to average from, due if nothing else to your abdominal area is always going to be a larger number, but this skewes your true overall bodyfat number if you just use a 3 point.

Welcome back Sandy. Read your journal, when my shoulder heals, maybee I'l be able to curl more than you. LOL. Great numbers kiddo.

Ron how about the age thing I mentioned. Is that peculiar to my chart or universal?

I have wondered the same thing Ivan.

BTW, the buffalo in the pix is the one that took a dim view of me when I flipped him off. Until you see one up close and personal, its hard to imagine. He is probably at least as strong as Muttersnapper.

I have to be gaining muscle becuse I sure haven't seen a weight loss. I sure hope everyone is having a better time at this than I am.
