I'm barking all alone at the moon Rev. I shoveled cow manure all day and did chest , heavy abs and back. There is nobody here to whine to.

Did you have to wear a kilt in your booth for the LV Highland game show. If you did, I want pictures. I think you could make a fortune raffling them. But yep my very large bro, I am bored stupid.

We have pretty serious Highland Games in the NC mountains. I tossed a caber 20 years ago. I took 3 steps shoved with all my might and then ran like hell so the damn pole didn't land on me.

I know how you feel, C.

I didn't have to wear a kilt this year, but one is probably in my near future - details to follow - maybe.
And I have worn one before... But, um no blackmail pics available....lol

It's a pretty big event out here, too, and getting bigger every year. Highland games are no joke!

Arms, back and abs. The lake hit 70 degrees this weekend. That's still cold for me. With temps in the 90s it's going up about a degree and a half a day now. I'll be swimming this weekend. We have two more hard days of planting and composting and nature can take it's course.

Michael I plan on seeing another Highland games but I'll be there for the music as much as the competition.

Our ancestors were crazy and we seem to be carrying on the tradition well.

Interesting story about bird hygene.

My wife and I bought a rubber kayak a few years  back. We don't really use it much as a kayak. We swim fairly long distances on a relatively busy lake. So we tie this 12 foot kayak to ourselves , one at each end, and swim. It's bright yellow and so far it's been a good drunken idiot repellant. We haven't been run over yet.

Across the cove where we dock is a very large great heron rookery. This summer we were able to watch about 25 herons go from egg form to flying.

We are long time birders. We've learned that birds are difficult to get close to on land. We've seen birds do some really cool things like the little hummingbird that chased a red tail hawk away. This weekend I learned that these shy herons, possibly the best aviators on the planet, will let you get really close under certain circumstances.

Last summer I was swimming alone.  I swim between these floating markers back and forth until I cover between 3 to 5 miles. The herons love to perch on top of those no wake buoys. When I swim, I swim very close to the buoy, pulling  the kayak and I circle the marker and make for the far marker about 3/4 of mile away.

The herons are not bothered in the least by a human pulling a big yellow rubber boat very close to where they perch.  I was circling the marker about 5 feet from where one of these giant B17s was perched. I learned an amazing thing about these great birds.

As I circled, the heron appeared to spook and prepare to fly. He made one graceful slow flap of his giant wings and stood up. Like I said, I was very close. He didn't fly. As he stood, his lower tail feathers parted and he let loose a huge, well, bird poop. I've seen that before. He repeated the process and I must say that these bird's waste elimination ability rivals a good sized dog.

Now here's the part I must confess I'd never thought about, much less seen. The heron took flight. He flew about 25 feet and dropped his rear end in the water! Then he did it 3 more times as he flew the hundred yards to the adjacent buoy. As god is my witness I never knew that birds wiped their butts in the lake. Herons are not only fantastic aviators, hunters and very graceful.
Apparently they practice proper hygiene.

i swam between 2 1/2  and 3 miles yesterday. I love the no impact aspect of swimming. I also read that Michael Phelps ate 10 to 12 thousand calories a day while training and mostly I love to eat. This is my cardiac work 2 to 4 days a week from early May to mid October

I am the speck beside the boat.

I pull an inflatable kayak that is tied to my britches. I also clip a life vest to the line in case I have a problem. The waser was 70 degrees today and I was chilly at the end. I live for this season. It's exercise without the sweat and I get to eat more...

2 1/2 mile swim. I made great time in very tough conditions. Water temps were down and wind was steady at 20 with gusts to 35.  It's like being slapped when a white cap hits your face. I'm alive.

I swam about 2 and a half miles without fins. Then I did a hard fast half mile with fins  and got a bad hamstring cramp. I removed the fins and propped my leg up on the kayak. Problem was I was 3/4 mile from the boat. I rested and side stroked with my leg propped dragging the kayak. The cramp eased up and I swam on home without the fins. It's a lesson I learned from years and years in the water. Relax, don't panic, solve the problem and get home.

Thanks, with my limited time I try to hit all muscle groups in a week and it helps with not getting too bored with my routines.
