2004 International Mutt Challange

You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's a signpost up ahead: your next stop: the Challange Zone

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension: a dimension of diet, a dimension of sight, a dimension of exercise. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into... 2004 International Mutt Challange Zone!!!

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to lifters It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between endorphins and pain, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his ultimate goals. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call Muttersnapper Zone.

Ok so I stole the intro as well as Mutts idea. I'm batting 1000. The purpose of the challange is fitness and health. There are categories for all.The challange starts tomorrow and ends August 1.

You can enter for weight loss or weight gain by IM-ing me your weight.

You may enter for body fat % by IM-ing me your BF% using mybodycomp.com to calculate it or using calipers.

Body measurements is another category. Again , its easy to keep track at the website I mentioned above. Everybody has different goals so I figure the best way to track and award points is to do it yourself. For every good 1/4 inch gained, award yourself 1 point. For every good 1/4 inch lost award yourself 1 point. Using the websight above is just an easy way to keep track and gives us an even playing field. Please know that the BF% there can be wildly inaccurate. We don't care what your real BF% is. This is simply a way to give everyone a way to play.

Dani is keeping track of the weight lifting portion and she will post how... here I hope.

I hope we can use this post for updates, questions and answers. Mike has started a post called trashcan for trash talk and geezer jabs. It might be nice to sticky this post for a few days while we get this thing off the ground.

Good luck and lift heavy

I want to reemphasize that the websight we are using for BF% calculations may not be accurate. Don't be discouraged or encouraged if your BF% seems high or low.

I have used it for a year and checked it against my calipers and found it to be wrong almost every time. They use a waist to hip ratio for men in their calculations. I have no access to a female body so I can't speak to that. My wife has no desire to be my guinea pig in calculation experimentation so thats out. I am merely her love toy. I digress

Anyway the first time I used the site a year ago my waist was 39, my abdomen 44 and my hips were 39.5. It calculated my body fat at 35%. Six months later my waist was 37, my abdomen 40 and my hips were 40.5. It said I was at 12% body fat. The calipers at that point said 21%. 4 months later I was at 36 waist, 37 abs and 39 hips and it told me I had 6% bodyfat. Well, the calipers said 17% The important thing here is that I am moving in the right direction.

Take your BF% with a grain of salt if you don't use calipers. The site will give us a gage to use that everybody has access to. If you have acces to calipers, use them but make sure you specify that so we all know.

Remember those of us who are more overweight than others have an advantage here in that you can lose weight more rapidly than those who are closer to fighting weight. USE THE ADVANTAGE. Every little thing helps.

As a note of interest. The first challange was started by Mutt, one of our fearless mods. Mutt has been instrumental in helping me and countless others. His challanges drew great interest and he is too busy to do one now. Everyone who participated in past challanges claims to have won. They are right. Thanks and a pat on his furry back and wet nose to my buddy the Muttersnapper. You make us better buddy.

Hey, it is very much appreciated what you are all doing offering these challenges. I am looking forward to them. I mentioned in another post, I even got up the guts to post my work out pictures. They are awful, I am terribly embarrassed, but they are me and there is no getting around that and I didn't want to not kid myself anymore, so you will all be able to see my fat, but mostly I will have it staring at me every time I log on and remind myself that I am in need of all of you and in need of some changes! Maybe with these challenges I will be able to post some better ones down the road. GLAD I FOUND YOU ALL! What a great bunch of people all striving to live healthier lives! Thanks!

Chuck,

Where can I get a caliper?

--------------
Would it be classified as overly competitive if I refused to let a 4 year old beat me at chutes and ladders?
2004/06/01, 08:31 PM
Fitness supply place or online places should have calipers. I would get advice from Carivan.

Hello, Charlie...hey, this may sound a bit duhh *wearing dunce hat in corner*, but it states in one of the challenge posts to write in your journals so others can see progress, etc. I cannot find a journal that others can see...*one of the three blind mice*. Is this only in the membership area? Also, do I need to post my "plan" or is that for weightlifters, etc. Thanks for clarifying, be kind, I'm a needy newbie.

You have to be FT pro to record an online journal. You can look at other's journals by clicking on fitness plan. Then look on the next line and see Personal Fitnes Logs. Ckick there and that will pull up everybodys journals. Its a great way to see all the different workouts everybody does.

You don't need to post your plan. Mike is just psyching everybody out.

Thanks, Charlie! I'll have to wear my humor detector more often! I guess if I posted a plan it would be something like, eat less of some things, eat more of others, workout/sweat, workout/sweat, stare at the chocolate bars at the store but walk on by with pride, and workout/sweat more.

:( i'm out of the running. (i find out today if its surgery or rehab) but no matter what my doctor does not want me lifting any weights that will stress the shoulders even if i'm only going through rehab...so for a little while it looks like i'm going to be getting some nice looking legs and abs

Good luck to everyone.

I see that you remain in the weight loss competition - well, that's good at least - although I know that you know I wasn't competing in that competition - you feel safer huh? - I apologize for scaring you so much charlie, now I almost feel badly for frightening you.:(:laugh:

Seriously, I hope you're not too badly injured - back injuries really suc. get well soon:love:

I'm sorry to hear of your back injury, Charlie, that makes it difficult to do much of anything. Keep your chin up but know I will be drivin' my Lincoln through the finish line first with the weight loss and hopefully the BF% since I have more to lose!! :dumbbell::laugh::dumbbell:

Vedak, a minor setback. I am still gonna win the weightloss and BF% but my training is on hold for a week or so. When I start back, it will be lighter and more reps to deal with a minor injury I had this weekend. I will tell the gang about it some day but not now. In the mean time we could let Bigandrew ride around in the massive trunks of our fabulous towncars. I hear he doesn't bathe.

Yeah, David_s81!!

I have some news, very shakily and with much anticipation, I decided to go do my stats on mybodycomp - my biggest fear was to see nothing as I feel some definition and I see some definition, but nothing real heart stopping after four weeks. The first time I did my stats was 6/1 where my bf% was at 45.04 and today it was at 42.96% with a total of 10.5 inches now removed from this porkly body! I was surprised that in 10 days I had accomplished that, but I had been working out, as I said, for two weeks prior so that may of helped. I have to find a scale to weigh on again, as the last was my weight from a scale in the mall, maybe I better go to the same scale for now, but I guess I will buy one as this is getting interesting and I want to know if I am losing any weight, too. It lowered my "fat mass" from 103 to 98, so let's hope so! I don't know when check-in is, but I had to peak as I was feeling a bit sorry for myself. I have upped my workouts and am feeling so much better! Thanks guys, you are great for the soul!!
