It really depends on your current dietary needs as to what to eat with it. But cottage cheese is great to eat either way(gaining or losing).

I blend it up and use it instead of sour cream on a baked potato, or dip with popcorn or baked potato chips. Blend it smooth and you can add seasoning to it. Or mix it with yogurt for a boost of protein. Add it to pasta. It is very versatile.

I eat it plain, or sometimes with fruit in it.

I usually eat it plain. However, it is really good with chives (fresh or freeze dried) and/or chopped tomatoes tossed in. You can also do fruit such as cantaloupe wedges.

I eat it with onions and tomatoes mixed in, or mixed with pasta bows and pineapple.

Try it with sunflower seeds sprinkled on top. I love it this way! I learned this by accident at a salad bar one time when the two got mixed together. Yum...

Plain... plain is best... sprinkle some flax meal on it and I'm all set!

Ok, I know this probably sounds dumb but this is a question I've had for a while since I've been on this site, and I was just readin this post and figured I'd go ahead and ask, What exactly is flax oil? And where do you get it at? Thanks, sorry to bother yall with such dumb questions, but I was thinkin about gettin some but I want to know a little about it first.

There are no dumb questions. Flax seed comes from a plant.
If you use the seeds, it acts as good dietary fiber, along with cholestrol lowering agents. Also contains high levels of omega 3 fatty acids. Soem supplement with the form of flax oil.
Check out this site for more info if you want.
It's from the canadian council, not a sales site.

All the cottage cheese I have ever seen has been the runny kind with the chunks. I haven't heard of solid cottage cheese before (though there just might be some).

I don't know how cottage cheese is made differently from regular cheese, but the difference is all on the box. Read the nutritional value of cottage cheese compared to solid cheddar cheese and you will see it is far better for you. High protien, low carbs, low fat (and I think milk fat/carbs aren't the best for you. Not sure though.)

Personally I eat lots of it, usually with pepper, but plain is good too!

Maybe its the Wisconsin in me, but I think cottage cheese plain is better than any other way. Sometimes my mom would add seasoned salt to it. I love the stuff plain.

Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein, and it's low in fat and carbs. This is my favourite way to eat it :
'The Lovechild'
1. Nuke 1 T peanut butter in the microwave for 20 seconds or so (this is just to soften it and make it easier to mix).
2. Mix in 1/2 cup of cottage cheese (low fat is best) and 1/2 a cup bran cereal (you need Fibre One for a TRUE lovechild).
3. Voila! Enjoy.

I know what you're thinking - ewwww, gross concoction - and believe me I was sceptical at first. But you will quickly become addicted. Try one today!

I've done 1/2 cup with a container (6 oz) sugar free vanilla yogurt, mix in 1/4 cup crushed pineapple and 1/4 cup mandarin oranges. It's quite yummy.

If I remember right from watching Food Network, cottage cheese is actually the curds and whey left from making other harder cheeses.

I have a question myself....I ate it for a few months...1/2 a cup every day with my lunch, but now looking at it makes me want to puke. I am thinking that I just overdid it, but has anyone else had to much like that? How long did it take before yu could eat it again?

I did that with eggs. Now I can't eat them so I put them in a blender with some o.j. and drink them.

I would not, could not ever ever never eat it, It looked gross, sounded gross eating blah blah blah. Until 2 weeks ago, I knew its potential and since I had thought all these things as a kid, it was time to check it out again as an adult. Thank you everyone for all the HEALTHY things to do with it. I had it a few weeks back with just some pineapple and its now a regular part of my diet. Think I'll look at brussel sprouts again..hmmm..

About the "how they make it" subject, a guy I know worked for one of the biggest diary companys here in Israel and one time he told us how they make it. First it starts as any cheese in HUGE stainless steel container (huge is room size), now while normal cheese just sits there cottage cheese has a net that circles in the container and thats why you get those little chunks. Thats about it.

I add splenda to mine then add a little vanilla flavor and mix it up, gives it a good vanilla flavor. I also mix it into my oatmeal, it kind of melts and gives the oatmeal a creamy taste.
