What's your biggest cause of a lack of motivation for fitness and how do you destroy it?

Personally, since I workout at home with only dumbbells (currently), is lack of exercise selection. Doing the same movements can get too dull. So I buy every book I see about dumbbell workouts and take exercises out of them. I also try to find new angles to tilt my body to mimic motions that are done only on machines. I just bought a new book and I'm aching to try out some of the cool new moves that I had never thought of - especially the diagonal lunges.

Cardio a definite! we don't have any different machines like they do in a gym. not being able to do cardio all the time with ravenwolf, like we used to. i used to love running in the woods with him, it is nice to share that with someone. so now, we usually walk on the weekends together unless one of us have an off day. or sometimes we do it in the evenings when he gets home. Plus i have bought a few different videos that i currently implemented to change my cardio routines such as pilates and aerobic workouts.

Not getting the results I want. But I keep working cause I dont want to loose what I have gained. It just seems like sometimes you arent getting big like you want or you cant get the abs you want.

Being tired is my 'un-motivator'. Of course, after a few warm up sets, I'm good to go. But it does take a lot to just get started. I've had bronchitis for a while now, and getting back into heavy lifts is tough - but that motivates me even more. When I can't seem to do it, I want to push myself until I can.

The monotony of cardio training tends to un-motivate me. I tend to become bored rather quickly and I have to fight with myself constantly to continue.

In order to alleviate the boredom while still reaping the results, I now do weight training at a challenging pace (keeping within my heart-rate) I keep this pace for 30-40 minutes give or take, thus shortening my cardio training time. I complete my weights, then I lessen up my cardio time spent on the elliptical.

My unmotivator is Monday nights at the gym. It is the busiest time and all the irregulars take up all the cardio machines and all the weights are busy.! Breaks up a good workout.

Hi Mack, that's a good question!!

I guess my biggest unmotivator is always training alone...... I live in a small area where not THAT many really cares about exercicing (or BB) and especially no women SO until now I haven't been able to find an exercice partner.
I cannot share my goals with anybody and work towards it..... People don't understand the work I do and they just tell me that I'll get fat since I eat that often!! (o;

My biggest un-motivator WAS my spine/hip disease. It was the reason I was forced into retiring from powerlifting so early. However, I defeated that by developing a new goal, and now I focus on that relentlessly!

I hate in when you reach a plateau, and the elation that you felt when you got to that heavier weight is replaced by depression that you don't seem to be able to lift it a second time. I get over that by going a weight heavier than I can do 3 sets of 8 on, like only 3 sets of 3 or something. Then the fact that I have pushed on to a heavier weight elates me again, and I stick at it until I can do a full set. Its a cycle, I feel.

Currently my un-motivator(s) is the cold snap we're in right now. It's difficult to get motivated to run in below zero temps. The other one I have is my shoulder injury. I have a minor shoulder injury and it frustrates the hell out of me since the shoulder is involved in so many parts of the lifting routine. I don't feel I can get a full workout anymore. Can be an un-motivator.

Having dinner w/friends or something is always going on. I can't get myself up early in the AM to go and than after I'm done having dinner w/friends or whatever I'm doing I'm too tired to go.

My biggest un-motivator was my boyfriend. That was until I took him in one night and showed him the gym, and now he goes with me everytime. He is so into the strnegth training now, that he even reminds me when it is time to go. Like a little kid with a new toy. I love having hime around at the gym now. The only problem is that he is very nice looking with a very nice body, so I have to watch the girls stare at him, and keep my mouth shut.

The twiggy girls at the gym (the ones that you can see thru them).... I try to deal with it by taking aerobics classes instead of machines, or I workout at home.

The cold cold weather, working 70 hours a week, and no one to work out with, and no equipment. And the friends who don't care to exercise at all always inviting me to go out to eat or to do other things and I feel guilty if I don't. Those are the big ones with me.

Not having anyone to workout with. my wife does cardio and aerobics, so I don't have anyone to lift with that can really push me.

Alcohol is my biggest unmotivator. If I go out the night before and have a few drinks, it makes me feel so lazy the next day. If I do get to the gym, my energy is very low.

My next unmotivator is my husband. He is naturally thin, doesn't think he needs to exercise, and always complains that I'm never home!
