This will be a thread for you all to discuss how you are feeling, how it is going, how badly you are going to beat the pants off each other in the challenge :), etc!

How am I feeling? Quite full of myself  (until the pain settles in........lol) I actually managed to drag my butt out of bed at 5:30, choke down some breakfast and get my workout done before my boys got up. Who's a good girl? hmmmm? The hardest part for me is shoving food down my throat as soon as I get up....ewwww

Deni -
You may find it easier to get up and have just some protein powder in crystal lite or water and a little fruit (Meal 2), then eat breakfast after your workout. Basically just switch Meal 1 and Meal 2 around. -------------- If you doubt you can accomplish something, then you can\'t accomplish it. After my pre-contest binge on chocolate covered macadamia nuts, chocolate chip cookies and pizza, I felt ready to start the challenge.
This morning I rolled out of bed and headed outdoors for a walk- the 5 degree weather was refreshing.I'm about to head out to the pool to take the kids swimming .Later this after I will do my weights and cardio. Then, after my hundreth meal- and thankfully last meal of the day, do my evening walk. I don't know If I'm going to be able eat as much as this challenge requires. That's the only concern that I have. I could do something small every three hours, but chicken breast, veggies, starches, fruit yugh. Don't get me wrong, I see the logic behind this plan, I just might have to force feed myself for the first few weeks :surprised: Anyways, good luck everyone. It's on like donky kong! |

Was everyone else as excited as I was to get started? I went to bed at ten focused on getting to sleep asap, and trying NOT to think about the workout. Then I immediately started dreaming...when my bf came to bed at 11:30 I was waking up from a nightmare. He said, "Awww, what was your nightmare about." I said, "I missed my workout." He didn't think that qualified as nightmare material...but it really was. Everybody from the forum was waiting for me and I could not make my way to the gym no matter how hard I tried. Needless to say, I was at the gym by 5:10 this morning and working my little arms off.
BTW, my training partner, Maricela, joined up last night (you should have received an IM, Amy). She said she also had trouble sleeping last night. |

For one who generally ate VERY sporadically at best, I was surprised when I tried out the eating plan last week and discovered that although I could barely move after eating a huge breakfast of oatmeal and eggs, that I was hungry again a couple of hours later. The rest of the day was the same. Go figure.......lol Amazing what happens when you eat properly and give your metabolism a chance to kick in. (and it only took me almost 50 years to figure it out! lol)

For flavors use seasoning mixes like Mrs dash - lots of different flavors, hot sauce, hot salt, gralic salt, pepper blends, Also look for Walden Farms brand dips and dressings - no cal no sugar actaully taste good. The ranch dip is my favoprite with veggies, and the bleu cheese dressing is good for dipping spicy chicken strips, mmm.

Day two, and I am suffering the most horrible of headaches (which I am assuming is coffee / caffine withdrawl) I am feeling very irritable as well.
I had to give a tongue lashing to one of the trainers at the gym this morning for her snide remarks concerning today's workout. "That's an awful lot of squats" and "Where are you getting THIS stuff from?" I was like, just show me how to do this damn sissy squat and shut up. Amy, I swear I wish that I had your picture in my wallet so that I could have showed it to her non-muscular-overly- aerobicized self. I would have loved to have slapped in on her forehead and said, "from this chick, you little atypical, cardio worshiping know-it-all bitch. -------------- A morning without coffee is like something without something else. |

I didn't quit, but I went from a pot to two cups...it's the only reason I can think of for the headache.
Yes, I agree that that it is a good workout. There is a good possibiity that I am not going to be able to walk by the end of the day. It's a shame...I think my balance issues kept me from getting the absolute full effect though...might be a good thing as noodle-ly as my lower half feels right now, lol. BTW, I picked up some of the isopure yesterday, opted for the strawberry..it's not too bad. I am having a hard time meeting my goals...ugh.
Target fat: 51...I got in 45 today Target starchy carbs: 77...I only got in 54. Target protein: 193...I got in 125 Target calories: 1550...1145 is what it all adds up to Anybody else struggling with this? I'm trying to adhere to the carb percentage for the meal times as instructed...then life happens and I don't get it in at that time frame and so I skip it. I know I can make up the protein and fat at other times...Should I be doing the same with my carbs or is the timing extremely important? Hi dfly....I had that SAME problem when I did the last challenge...it took a good couple weeks of writing everything down before I got the kinks out...my cal and fat always ended up low...and carbs high...it can be frustrating at first...
I started preplanning what I was going to eat...so I knew going IN what I needed to add where...I would add olive oil...if I was low in fat...or tuna if I was low in protien...where I needed it...the night BEFORE...so I wasn't playing catchup if I found I fell short in a meal..plus...already knowing what I was going to eat that day...gives me less to have to worry about...I get it all done in one shot... anyway...not sure if that helps...just stick with it...and it all will fall into place soon enough!!!! |

I see what you mean now. Before I didn't really follow the diet to a great degree because I already had another diet that was working well for me. So, last night and today I find myself going to extremes to get my protein and fat up. I have a bunch of avocados in the kitchen...and soon as they are ripe they should take care of fat deficits.

Yes, I've been having the same problems with the diet aspect of it, but that's mostly because I've been on the run from morning 'til night with work this week. arggggh......Got home at 8 last night (with more work....lol), but thanks to precooked chicken (already cut up), precooked rice in the freezer and precut veggies, I just threw them all in my wok, added some curry sauce and voila! supper in less than 10 mins! Now I just have to work on the rest of the meals. Thanks to Amy, at least now I don't have to worry about trying to eat breakfast as soon as I wake up. You all are just having some adjustment issues - the key is to keep focused on improving from one meal to the next, and from one day to the next - it will get better!
About those sissy squats - if they a re uncomfortable - drop them! Do stationary lunges or step-back lunges instead - 3 sets of 12. I will add this note to the workout thread, as well. Ignore the trainers at the gym - most trainers still train people with programs like the ones in magazines - a lot of isoltaion work, light weights for women...etc. You are doing great compound-move based workouts and the results will speak for themselves = don't second-guess it or doubt it. The squats all hit your legs from differetn angles and burn mega-calories. I am all for having my picture on a t-shirt :) Anyone have the screen=printing capabilities? -------------- If you doubt you can accomplish something, then you can\'t accomplish it. I agree with you Amy - I know that MY biggest problem food-wise, is organization. I do at least have pre-cooked chicken, rice and veggies already cut up, which is a huge help. I just need to get things organized the night before when I know I'm going to have a busy day, so I can just grab what I need before I run out the door. I'm getting better though!-------------- Deni ------------------------ To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. - Anatole France |

Christal - don't cut out snacks to compensate for later meals - eat your snack on time - meal timing is imprtant.
You have to learn to eat out and still eat right - nearly every restaurant has chicken breasts - as for baked or grilled - same with fish - ask for baked or grilled - no cream sauces . You can usually get a plain or lightly buttered baked potato (Outback is my favorite - a creamy baked sweet potato, MMM). You could also oreder steak. If your order is a six ounce steak, cut it in half and take half home. Order a big, green salad, minus the cheese and croutons, then ask for dressing on the side and just lightly dip the times of your fork in the dressing before spearing veggies - you get flavor without a lot of calories that way. Many restaurants have a 'diet' menu, check it out and see if it fits, sometimes it is cheaper to order something off the regular menu. Often you can get an omelette - ask for no cheese and extra veggies (like the Denver omelet) skip the hashbrowns, and bacon/sausage. You have to learn to eat anywhere, anytime by knowing what and how to order - that will help make your lifestyle healthier when the challenge is over. -------------- If you doubt you can accomplish something, then you can\'t accomplish it. You have to have confidence in your ability, and then be tough enough to follow through. Rosalyn Carter |

i had fish of the day wityh salad and because i dont like there toppings i didn't have any so i guess it wasnt to bad, the one thing that made everyone look at me weird was asking for water when everyone else was having alcohol but i think hey i didn't touch a drop for 9 months so why do i need it now? why does everyone get on your back when you say your on a diet, why cant they just be happy for you?

I'm sick....ugh - I could hardly lift my head off the pillow this entire day.....so I missed my workout and my eating was not challange worthy....
How do I make up for missed workouts? Should I just jump back onto the schedule when I feel human again? |

jay is right, christal - it makes other people uncomfortable when you try to improve yourself because it shines a spotlight on their own unhealthy habits or lack of motivation/dedication. Get used to it - my whole family went through a phase where they constantly questioned if I was eating enough, if I was overexercising, if i was being healthy...when they came to my show, I think they finally understood. Now I am training some of them and the others ask questions on how to get healthier all the time.:)
When those people make you uncomfortable just think about how you will be running circles around them with your newfound healthy energy levels! -------------- If you doubt you can accomplish something, then you can\'t accomplish it.
