Yes, I'm treading a fine line between getting maximum bodyfat for June the 1st and landing up in the coronary care unit :angry:, but these are the sacrifices I'm prepared to make :)

Hello, I am definitely interested in the June challenge. I need to get in more cardio and more resistance training. I have started doing more already, but I can use that extra added boost. Count me in.

After reading some of the other posts, I'm almost tempted to drop out. There is no way I can keep up with everyone else. I just started and I would hate to drop out.I want to get in the challenge to lose some body fat. And to gain some strength. I just need to be motivated to exercise consistantly for 5 days per week and do resistance for 3 days. That's my own personal challenge. I know it might like sound like a lot to others, but for me being as heavy as I am, it's a lot to me. I plan on hanging in there and doing this. Thanks everybody for all your help.

Lynnda Maree, sorry I mispelled your name before. If you drop out , all the psychos will harrass you. Just kidding. All of us are at different levels. Rookies have the best chance of winning. The longer you have been into this the harder the gains become.
This talk is all in fun. The group will encourage you when the going gets tough. What do you have to lose?? As the head geezer here, it makes my little heart go pitter pat when one of these yahoos come up with a decent geezer joke. I promise to hold my own with them . You can too. Ok,your gonna have all the motivation you need, and like Uncle Charlie sid, it will be easy for you. Even me, I haven't trained for 5 weeks now, so when I start June 1st, I'll be a beginner again. charlie, I tried to upload a pic but the ft site wouldn't have it - I think I'll need to lose more weight before the image is condensed enough to be uploaded.
I noticed on the side of my coke can that it's made with "vegetable extracts" - another serving, surely? Tex, get well soon and if all else fails take your second shoulder measurement on August 1st with your shoulder out it's socket for maximum gains in shoulder size :) |

NO need to drop out Lynnda! The challenge is calibrated so that no matter your goals there is a category for you.
It's the spirit of competition that is key here -- to get motivated and make a commitment to yourself; and see just what you can accomplish in two months when you set your mind to it. Believe me we have entrants at EVERY level, you will not be alone. Amy, send me your body weight and 1 rep maxes (as calculated here on FT) for whichever lifts you wish to compete in. The three for overall strength are bench, dead and squat, and we can add any other lifts that there is interest in (chins have been requested already). Tex, sounds like we need to add the leg press so you can compete in something!! -------------- : ] ~Danielle Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action. ~Benjamin Disraeli |

Mybodycomp.com is only a tool. It is not accurate for measuring body fat. Only body fat calipers are accurate but everyone doesn't have those. We are using mybodycomp.com because everybody has access. The numbers will atleast be consistant and the measurements will be dead bang. HHHMMMMMMMMM, not much activity here. I have receiced 4 or 5 sets of stats. Don't know what Dani has gotten.
First off welcome to the new folks. The more we have participating, the better. Everybody should know there are events like the 3 lift category all the way to simple weight loss or measurement changes. That means all levels of folk can play and expect a reasonably balanced field. I think the only one we need to watch is her highness from Scotland. She may bend the rules a bit. To those already participating ,be sure that you mention the Challange to other FT ers who may be interested. If you don't want any of your statistical info posted, DON'T send it. For now I will only post BF% when the contest starts in an effort to save bandwidth. The diminsional competition will be scored like this. Each good increase like chest, biceps, calves, thighs etc will be given 1 point per 1/4 " change. I understand Ivan {Carivan}is quite Einstienien and volunteer him to help those who need it.LOL Each good decrease will be scored the same way. Eg. 1/4 inch off the waist, abdomen, head etc will be given 1 point. You will have to score yourself. I think its too much for 1 person to keep up with. Send me point updates every 2 weeks. At the end of the Challange send me your stats again and I will verify your results. On BF% send those updates every 2 weeks. For now the BF% is all I will post except to give updates on who is in the point lead on measurement competition. You new to fitness folk have a huge advantage here because you will shead inches and BF% faster than those who have been doing it a while. Asimmer and Hec da rec will be the enforcers if anybody wants to quit, cheat, whine, moan, cry, or stray from their diet. You don't want to get on their bad sides. Uh, well actually every side is bad but you get my drift. We need to chat this thing up, get your entries in, and keep those cards and letters coming. I also invite all moderators as well as George and Adrian to play -------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie

We'll see if your bite is as good as your bark Mutt!
I suspect most people are waiting until June 1st to send in their stats. I have received from about 8 people. Be advised I am going to Florida next week, gone from the 26th to the 31st so anything sent to me in that timeframe will be read and entered on June 1st.. send away!! Here's what I have entrants in: Body Weight Bench Press Deadlift Squat Overall Strength (combination of the three above) Stifflegged Deadlift Bicep Curl (dumbbell) Leg Press Chin-ups (need feedback from you all if this is wide or narrow, or if pull-ups are preferred instead) ALL of the above categories will be calculated two ways: 1.) highest percent of body mass (math is shown in separate post) 2.)great increase in percent of body mass from June 1 to Aug 1 So.. Come One, Come All.. to the GREAT Mutt Challenge of 2004, coming to a big top near YOU on June 1st!! Get your stats and send 'em in folks, it's all about the fun of it!! -------------- : ] ~Danielle The deepest rivers flow with the least sound. |

well I can raise myself partially up princess.. so I guess I'm starting from .5?
David has it on the second lot, there are a few people who aren't in a position to compete in the major lifts, they're starting from more of a 'scratch' position and requested some more basic exercises to improve on. |

I'm no Einstine. The govenment converted us to that damn metric stuff 30 yrs ago. All I know is a litre of gas is 99.9 cents. If you convert that to real numbers, it's roughly 4.50 a gallon cdn. Dani and I conspired on this stuff with total Mutt confusion in mind. We knew there would be no GEO lifting category so we came up with the "baffle 'em with BS " approach. Looks like we succeeded. MMMWWWWUUUUHHHHHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

Can I ask a silly question here ...
on leg day during the challange will I just do squats and dead lifts as well as calves . MY ft program calls for 2 leg exercises plus calves on leg day ..I really am starting from scratch on these two lifts ,and for squat I will be starting with ball squats as I am having problem with getting the feeling for proper form.. thanks -------------- "If you are going to walk on thin ice you might as well dance" angelsnow@freetrainers.com |

Anni, the silly questions are the ones not asked. Most of the FT workouts have a leg day which will have for instance squats, lunges, leg extensions, leg curls etc. This day very often includes straight leg dead lift because that movement taxes the glutes and hams as well as the lower back. On your back/shoulder day you may see deadlifts along with shoulder and back movements. The deadlift works a different assortment of muscles but also glutes, hams, and lower back.
On both of those days, calves can be worked. Most of the FT routines stress working one muscle group per week to allow for recovery. The muscles in the legs ,abs, and back recover quicker because they are used in day to day activity and they can take the extra wear and tear. As always with any lifting you will be better off lifting lighter and perfecting your form. You won't have a problem at the gym finding somebody to help you.Form is everything.Weight comes later. Hope this helps -------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie
