Ok as a vet tech I must laugh about the anti flea treats...garlic is an old wives tale for a flea control...and pets like their owners gain most of their weight from treats....These treats do not state calories at all....buyer beware :)

My cousin claims that putting brewer's yeast on her dog's food keeps the fleas at bay - what do you think?

I agree with you lonegirl. I got in the habit of giving my dog treats every morning, and every time I leave the house for anything and come back, no matter how short a time it is she expects a treat. I have noticed lately she is getting shall we say, a bit plump? :0)

I used to eat milkbones when I was a kid (I'm not joking - LOL!), so maybe that explains alot...

Uh..... Rev, is that a problem??? I still enjoy a milk bone with the local dock dogs. We also howl together and pee off the dock late at night. Should I not do this anymore?

I never thought much of it as a problem, just that maybe it explains some of my characteristics... :surprised:

Very true. I've been hearing "Oh, that's just Mike" since like highschool, and mostly from my own family. Of course, maybe the dog treats explains something about our own beloved Mutt...

Mutt it's ok, just be ready for odd looks if you bark while you pee.

Ivan, the heartworm meds are tasty and make my hair shine.

On a serious note.....My dog is peeing blood and has a kidney infection!
Now I have to get a urine test done and the vet gave me this plastic funnel and a bottle.
Yes, thats right, I have to get under Jessie while she pees and fill the container. Try doing this in 10 inches of snow!

Charlie? Ron? Lonegirl??? Any volunteers?

Sorry Ivan, but you will have to leave me out on this one. I am quite sure that even my own dog, my wife would be doing it! I would guess it to be much harder with a male than a female also. At least you have that going for you.

lol thank s for clarifying carivan...I was about to say that it was unlikely a kidney infection....
On another serious note....animal obesity is becoming as much of an epidemic as it is in the human world....as with people it can be the leading cause of many other diseases...type 2 diabetes, joint issues, slowed recovery form surgery, heart problems, skin problems from being unable to properly groom themselves....oh and it is much easier to catch a sample on a male than a female...they lift their leg making it much more convienient.
PS CARIVAN.....use a pie plate instead....throw it in the dishwasher 1st to clean it well....I am surprised that the hospital doesn't collect the sample themselves (cystocentesis is the most sterile way to collect it)
Good luck!!!

First off, here's how it went.
The coldest day of the month so far, -31 wind chill, blowing snow, heres me with a pie plate folowing the dog waiting for her to pee.
Thanks to Lonegirl's idea, I used a pie plate, or otherwise I think it would of never worked. Got it all in the container, put the lid on and then it slipped out of my hands. Thank G-Dthe lid was on. I dropped it off at the vet on the way to the gym.

All I can say is, it's done and it's freakn cold here.
Charlie...enjoy the girls in the shorts!

I am with Charlie and hope that your pup is okay, well wishes to her!

On the doggie treats, there are recipes where you can make your own doggie treats that are a bit healthier if you have still like to give your puppies a food reward. We used our treats to train but we would still break them into little pieces rather than give them the whole thing, they didn't seem to mind and if they got TWO they thought it was awesome!

Ok keep training! All is well with Jessie. No crystals found in the urine. Just a benine bladder infection which the meds will take care of.
Lonegirl are you there??? Thanks.

How long does a typical heat cycle last? Please say it is a very short time, my dog is driving me nuts!
