Everyone seems to say, cardio, cardio, cardio, but few have concrete suggestions about type and what would fit into an average day. I have one child in school, and one still at home with me. I have no access to a gym, nor fitness videos, nor miscellaenous home gym stuff. Can anyone suggest a cardio routine that can be done indoors? (so I don't have to haul my toddler out into the wintry weather)

well there are a ton of options, first off, if you have a vcr you can borrow aerobic tapes from your local library for free, i know of tons of shows that broadcast early in the mornings on different channels that have active aerobics. There are different types out there, yoga, pilates, etc. if you have stairs in your home then walking up and down stairs is a great cardio, buy a jump rope, that is great too. turning on the radio and just dancing in place is another way, there are so many different ways to do cardio at home, just be a little creative and go with the flow. good luck and let me know what you come up with.

You can even try running on the spot. Get Some good dancing music like from Ricky Martin, he has a good rythym to make a good work out. If you have a dog, be careful, they think your playing with them!

Well as I said I know some are bad but that is really cause they have not been socialized correctly. My wife works at an animal hospital(one reason why we have 7 dogs. 6 chihuahua and a hotdog.) Ours love people, LOL a little too much.

The job is still a big issue, but having my wife and son depend on me makes it worth while.

i forgot to add earlier, when i was a stay at home mom, before becoming divorced one of the best ways i kept in shape was housework!!! you won't believe how many calories you burn just doing that! now my kids are older and thank god they made these things called chores!!LOL, i just wish they'd do them all of the time. good luck mrs. gumby, let us know what you found that suited you best!

this post is too funny. whenever i try to do my pilates at home my cat likes to play and crawl all over me. i have been known to dance with my dogs as well.

mrs_gumby - i would suggest getting some videos and doing those when you can.

Thanks for all the good advice. My son does keep me busy. We plan to start attending an indoor walking program this week, and we started making up dances to his Shrek soundtrack. Wish me luck? I hope to lose 15 pounds before xmas. (back to my prepregnacy weight) Any other advice?

Hey, my aunt'd dog is half chihuahua, and half yorkie. It basically looks like a chihuahua with hairy legs and a hairy tail, but everything else is like skin. Hows that for ridiculously funny.

You know, I click on this topic to read about cardio at home and the last post is about hairy chihuahaua with hairy legs - how we tend to stray.

Taebo videos are good, and so are step aerobics. Pretty much anything that will keep you moving for 20+ minutes.

Be careful with the Taebo things. One can overextend and get elbow pain.

Save the cash, buy a skipping rope. :)

Or DVR Fit TV! I DVR In Shape with Sharon Mann and will run two episodes back to back (about 45 mins of cardio when you figure in commercials that I fast forward). This is a last resort when I can't get to the gym, or go jogging around the neighborhood with the dog.

pilates isn't cardio, but would be a nice addition for stretching and core work.
