I hate to ask this, but is there a resource that I could use to help me build a structured meal plan using this excellent knowledge (good stuff bb1fit)? I have the hardest time trying to figure out specifically what to eat and when. Would someone be able to point me in the right direction to help me build a structured meal plan?

Try to look at it like this. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. That gives you 6 meals for the day, and if you workout and have a PWO that will make it 7. You want to have a decent protein source thru-out the day on your meals and some decent fat. Try to place your carbs thru-out the day when your gonna need them the most, usually morning to supper. If you workout in the evening though, by all means save some of them for before and after your workout. The closest your gonna get to a meal plan builder is the nutritional tracker. Just takes trial and error. Read and learn.

Fiber will not replace glycogen stores. Have some good complex carbs like sweet potatoes, brown rice, etc.

So, To jumpstart metabolism what do i REALLY need to do? I would love to read all of what he has wrote, But there is just so much and so many things i don't really understand.

Can you give me just the main point outs of it? It's a REALLY REALLY long thread going on here.

print it and do the reading for yourself - if you don't want it that badly, no amount of summary will help you.

:( Ok...now Im really confused. When I first came here I was taking in around 1300 calories a day. I was eating lots of chicken, fish and veggies. I was told I needed to eat more and get to the 2500 - 3000 calorie mark. I stared to incorporate milk, eggs, nuts, whole grains and even a small amount of peanut butter to boost my caloric needs while still attempting to maintain a "clean" diet. However, this seems to NOT be the case at all.

I love this site because I have learned a lot but I get confused. There is so much of "eat this" or "don't do that" or "take this supplement". My goal is to drop my body fat %.

I guess I should revert to my original diet of chicken, fish and veggies if I want to burn body fat. In addition to that I will continue to take my multivitamin, fish oil and glutamine(sp?).

Hi guys! This is my first time posting. I read this diet thread carefully and decided to give it a try. I used fittogether.net to calculate my body fat %. I'm in good shape yet I was surprised to see I had almost 23% body fat when I weighed 174 lbs. About 4 years ago, I lost close to 75 lbs without exercising though but with a strict diet. I lose weight fast so I have a bit of loose skin but my goal is to reduce my body fat % so the skin can cling back to my muscles.

So before I started the diet I weighed myself at 174 lbs with 22.86% BF and 134.23 lbs of LBM. I'm 5'10".

2 weeks into the diet (which I have been following religiously), I do my calculations again and I lost a shocking 8 pounds. So now I'm at 166 lbs with 22.51% BF and 128.63 lbs of LBM and 37.37 lbs of fat mass. What I don't get is why I lost so little fat and so much LBM when I've been hitting the gym at least 3 times a week and I take the proper amount of protein as well as all the vitamins needed (including omega).

I'm studying to become a police officer and we do some cardio (8km run and swimming) and I do cardio twice on top of those. Could I be doing too much and that's why I'm losing a lot of weight quickly? I still don't understand why I'm losing LBM though.

Oh also, my resting metabolic rate also went down from 1687 to 1632 yet I've been eating more often during the day.

Can someone help me?

Well, this computer program is still an old one unfortunately, and still on the 'low fat/no fat' kick so to speak. This can and is drastically wrong, as EFA's are a dam good friend when dieting heavily, as well as normal diet. Taken on chronic basis, they exert wonders in benefits.

Ok, thought I would start a thread exclusively related to diet, and post when possible, diet thoughts, diet types, how to start diets, maintenance, etc. Basics, and then some. These will be posted as time permits..:)

Ok, for the first installment.....many folks want to know just how quick they can lose X amount of FAT! Remember the word fat. Conventional wisdom has it that less than 2 lbs. per week is max. This again is conventional wisdom, in other words a figure someone came up with "everyone" seemed to like, and it became mainstream. To its credit, it is probably the maximum one should actually strive for.

Putting this realistically for folks, some numbers may be of use. One lb. of fat contains approximately 3500 calories energy. So, doing the math, in order to lose 2 lbs. of fat per week, requires a weekly deficit of 7000 calories! (and that is assuming in a perfect world all of it is fat!)

Now, a deficit can come in a variety of ways, but it means restriction of calories in some form...whether through diet, exercise, supplementation, or a combination of them. This will come out to 1000 calories per day. So you see, this conventional wisdom may not be realistic....or the 2 lbs. per week you are losing are not all fat!!

For fear of making these too long, and people will get bored reading them, next installment we will take a look at weight loss versus fat loss.

As I go, will be introducing some dieting methods, from kickstarting a diet to how to do maintenance. Hope this helps folks. It is time consuming...feedback would be interesting to see if anyone thinks it worthwhile before I invest too much time.
