Well fellow FTers it is time! It is time for me to say that I am making a change I have played with this for a while now, and the excuses stop. I am joining my gym next week and from that point on I will be on the warpath. I know that the First ever Mutt Challenge fell kinda short for some of us so i challenge us all again to tak it up nov 1st. We will do it again til jan 1st. My over all goal is drop 5% or more of bodyfat. I also Pleged this: I am done with giving out advice to others untill I have reached my goals. Kind of talking the talk and walking the walk. So until I reach my 12-14% goal of body fat I am done with dispensing advice. I will stay active here in that my journal will be still updated ( and I fear very long winded). So if ya want to join me great if not lets get ready to rumble!

You youngsters and your challenges... how precious. Why, in the old days, we walked up hill both ways to school! THAT was all the challenge we had time for!LOL

I guess I'm in, Muttster. What do I need to do? This doesn't involve Pop Tarts, does it?

PS - Boy are you gonna make a lot of people sad with the news of no more advice...

Pop tarts ae dead to me!! As are oreos! I hate to stop giving out advice but lately I just do not seem to be able to give it out, and I think that the fact that I have not reached my goals is making it hard for me to feel good about giving out advice about eating right and such when I do not always follow that advice. I feel like a pompus king that expects others to do as I say not as I do. So I must turn off my want and need to help out and ty to make this goal of mine...but thanks for the thought

Good one, Charlie!

I have to hit ole Muttster with these comments as retaliation. He seems to enjoy reminding me of my over 40 status.

So are you on-board with Mutt's challenge? You know, show him the advantages of mature muscle! Show him that after walking uphill both ways to school (in the snow), that this challenge ought to be a cakewalk!

Besides, we gotta drum up support, so we can get this challenge over with (so he'll start giving out advice again)!

Hey MUTT, if you stop giving out advice we will hunt you down and squeeze it outta you.
Your advice is always sound and level-headed and to lose your perspective on things around here would be a loss for the whole FT community.
We all have our challenges, what is more important than the fact that you haven't hit your mark yet (wasn't there some serious illness, a surgery, and some pretty bad depression in the interim, hmm, I can't imagine why you aren't ferther along towards your goals) is the fact that you keep getting back on the bicycle and trying again.
You are not a failure if you fall down, you are only a failure if you don't get up and try again.
I will take on your challenge, and believe me, I fell off the last one myself, but I will take this one to heart and give you a run for your bodyfat.
Is this going to be the official post?

Guys and Gals I want to thank you all for the comments. I did not make the decision to stop giving advice lightly. It is something I have been thinking about for a while. I need to make some changes in my life and this is just one of them. I am not leaving! But I need to put my own advice to work. I may if the ned is great answer some few posts but for the most part I need to take a break from them.

I_Am-zon it is hard to explain the thought process, but it is just that I want to get my act together before telling others what they should be doing....

And I agree with RW - you will do it. :) Let us know how you progress.

I'll play. I am on day three of my 8th week of an 8 week plan. This plan was the first after rotator cuff surgery and I see the doc today to get cleared to start pushing again. The last 8 weeks have been the "back off at any pain type". I plan on doing a straight FT 8 week advanced program with emphasis on shoulders and thighs. If anyone laughs at my numbers I'll be embarrassed because I'm basically starting from scratch.

I wasn't here for the last challange so I don't know exactly What We are doin here but I've never let ignorance interfere with my stupidity any way.

Dave, hang with me here. We more mature people need all the help we can get even though you are a bit of a whippersnapper to me.

I want in, I always perform much better when under pressure, not sure yet which part of the challenge I will post yet but i will. I have made a mental challenge to myself to be the "before & after-results are not typical" kinda case, but I have given myself until christmas when my routine will come to an end.

I wish you the best of luck in your challenge & agree with everyone else, I am new to the forum here but you have answered several of my posts & the advice was well spoken & taken to heart. As others have stated I also fully understand your point about walking the walk if your going to talk the talk. But let me say this, helping others can help you help yourself.

best of luck mutt.

By the way if anyone can give me an accurate way to determine body fat % I would put it to use, the way I was shown comes out to be about 30% in my case, my goal has been to get it down to below 15%. Is that too low or normal for someone who is in good shape? Thanks as always.

If you wanna believe it, mybodycomp.com has system using measurements. I phrase it that way because it puts my % at 13 FT says 15 and that is suspect. I think you need calipers or water measure to be accurate. Whenever this thing starts, I'll use mybodycomp because us geezers need all the help we can get. Train hard!!!!

Thanks charlie, I checked it out & according to their system I am at 24.5% instead of 30%. Can this info be right, either one, I mean come on, I may not be in great shape but I'm not obese!

It is good you could get your measurements to stop flexing and exhale so you could record them, charlie :)
If you guys can convince a trainer at a local gym that they need the practice, getting your comp done with calipers is more accurate. Lots of things can affect measurements, and some charts are crazy(according to the hieght and weight insurance charts, I am morbidly obese...).
Gosh, a new challenge, I guess that means I have to post my stats again.. ugh.

I said this before, but the numbers I got at mybodycomp.com made me depressed for weeks. I don't think it's very accurate. It said I was at 37%. This sites calculator puts me at 27% and when I had the caliper one done 5 months ago it was 28%. Does anyone know what calipers run and where you can get them? I'm thinking of getting some just so I can check when I feel like it and not have to make an appointment.

The problem with checking yourself is it is difficult and not as accurate as having someone else do a seven sight test. If you have a friend that you could learn with, and check each other, that would be ideal. Once you have a calipers, learning to do it is pretty easy and as you continue to do it it will get easier.
Look at www.chponline.com they have the c-120 slim guide calipers that we used in school and at the gym, not the highest quality, but mine has lasted quite well. It includes the book How to Measure % Bodyfat and costs 29.95. Don't get the cheaper ones, we had some of those in school also and they suck!

Mutt,

I've been on and off this site for quite some time and in all of that time I've noticed a constant, you. We've all read your great advice, your thoughts on supplementation and your help for young people looking to boost their growth with steroids. You've been a strong measure to those of us trying to accomplish our goals of what type of information should be given, not just what the magazines tell us.

I'm saddened that you will no longer advice, but I understand thoroughly. As I've been gaining weight I feel I'm not representing myself properly. Therefore, I gladly join your challenge to lose bodyfat, weight and, for the first time in my 37 years, actually see my muscles.

Let's roll.....
