I have a head cold..granted its not all bad,but iam somewhat stuffed and have a sore throat..I managed to do one set of 8 exercises then said "to #(*$ with this"

What are your opinions about working out during illness? Some say that anything above the chest then its OK to work out in moderation

Others say that working out during an illness,is a no no as it comprimises the immune systems ability to work properly

All I know is that missing one workout or even two isnt gonna kill me...

Is getting a light workout or two while your sick gonna kill you though?

I can honestly say that in the last year or so that I changed my life that unless fluids are exiting one end of my body at a rapid rate or I'm recovering from surgery, then I'll always do some time of workout. Even if it's 15 minutes of light cardio the extra oxygen isn't going to harm your recovery. Just make sure you're still eating well cause your body needs energy to recover from exercise and/or illness.

Well it is a matter of knowing your body, however, if you are sick a few things to think on. One is that you are spreading your germs to all at the gym. Two during and after a workout your bodies immune systems is lowered so it can actualy take long and or hurt you to workout while sick.

I have lifted while being sick and have felt better for the most part. I will not EVER lift again while having a bad sinus infection that just about killed me.

Sounds like the same bug I had. It really seems to be going around. I tend to just listen to my body, if I feel well enough, I'll work out, as long as I'm not compromising those around me. I actually went to the gym while I still had the sniffles and took a pack of tissues and a small bottle of sanitizer with me:) I generally feel better after a workout, but I won't workout if I really feel like crap. I did miss a few days at the height of that stupid bug.

Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.

Studies have been done and show that some light cardio will help you recover faster from a cold.

But if you have chest congestion and your oxygen saturation may be compromised than you may want to rest fully.

I think it really depends on how sick you feel. Sniffles - work out, coughs, aches, fever, etc, rest.

Chicken soup is a scientificaly proven decongestant, also.

Here is my secret knock-out cold formula, try it if you dare, my family swears by it:

Take a can of chicken broth(or bouillion will do), put it in a pot and heat it up while it simmers add in some minced ginger (put it through the garlic press), a clove or two of garlic, pressed, and a 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper. Let this simmer for a few minutes and then drink it as hot as you can stand it. It will clear out your head and heat up your core. I have found it really lessens the duration of a cold.

She speaks the truth. I like to get in there, and let my body decide how much of a workout it wants.

Iron and chalk.
