So, I started exercising again last week and it was the first time really since about Feb. 06 that I really worked out.
I noticed first that I started gaining inches while really eating healthy, including no table salt. A member told me to try drinking more water than I was, I did. And I did well with by the way. Still doing well. I take measurements every Sunday and Thursday and weigh myself everyday just to keep myself honest. I know that weight fluctuates but today my weight was down (that's good for me) 2.5 lbs. and for some reason I keep gaining those 2.5's and then losing them. What I don't understan is that on today my weight being 2.5lbs. less than normal my inches are up again in my hips by 1.25 inches. Not good for me. I am 5'6" at 132.5-135lbs. and measurements on a good day are 36 - 29 - 40(hips) ugh. Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on? Is this normal? Please tell me. |

I'm A novice So Let me give you my opinion maybe the rest will back me up and here it is:
WHAT IS NORMAL!!!!!! Everyone has different body types thats for sure I feel if you're comfortable thats half the battle...and on a more personal note Why would you measure yourself 2x a week and weigh yourself everyday? It just seems to me enjoy life a little more I heard from someone out here you get more dissappointed and depressed if you constantly look at a scale and your measures wait do it one a week maybe once every two weeks IT should be a part of your life NOT your WHOLE life -------------- Jason Fox 6\\'1\\" 365lbs Weight Goal 300 by april 2007 |

Jason is absolutely correct....weighing yourself and measuring constantly will drive you insane....women gain and lose frequently...more so because of water retention...did you fix your water problem...I remember you saying you had trouble drinking water...I promise you, until you get that together you won't see alot of results...I suggest you read through the stickies in all the forums...but you really need to read the FAQ forum.
Also...at 5'6 and 132 pounds...what exactly is your goal??? |

Also....I just realized you said it's only been a week...we all need a plate of patience with our diets...bb1fit says that...it's my favorite...give yourself at least a minute to adjust...things will start to fall into place soon enough!:)

Hi KC,
Well, I fixed my water problem...I drink so much from the time I wake til about 45 mins. before bedtime. Today I've had 160oz. of water and I think that's really good. I'm taking a break from red meat for a while. Haven't had that in about a week either. My diet is really good, I don't drink any soft drinks, can't have any caffeine for health reasons and eat lots of fruits and veggies as well as making sure I meet my protien requirements. I have an account with fitday.com which is a site to help you meet you daily requirements of just about everything and calculates it as well. I've had that for about a year and really love it there. Well, I am 5'6 and 132.5 but feel so much bigger. In February of this year I weighed 149 and went down to 132 in March, but my measurements are exactly the same minus 2 inches in my hips. Weird. That's when I was working out everyday and doing pilates among other things like weights. My goal is to just be firm. I don't care if I weigh the same but by golly just want to be firm. Sometimes I feel so hopeless. I know it takes time and I am willing to wait because I have no other choice and actually I am o.k. with taking my measurements twce a week and weighing everyday because I had to when I was in high school. The weighing part anyways. I like my body (Ihave learned to really like it because it is an actual hour glass) but want to do what it takes to look and feel tigter and leaner. Acording to my measurements and a website I found, with my height and weight with measurements taken...I am 31% body fat. That just doesn't make sense to me. |

i used to weigh myself everyday and KC is so right..i just gave up and weigh myself on the same day every week and actually at the same time of day too.. sometimes i may weigh myself once during the week but rarely..i would get so upset weighing myself everyday cause i would gain a pound or something mid week but when i hit my weigh in day i would have actually lost a pound or maybe even two since my last weigh in.. go figure..hehehe

At 5'6" and 132 lb, I'd say wt lifting is what you need most. Your wt is currently in a normal range for your height. Pick one of the wt training programs here and get to it. It'll firm you up and make you look alot leaner....but be warned...you may actually see your weight increase with increased muscle mass! keep your diet clean and lift, you'll be amazed at the transformation in your body. But give it time, it certainly won't happen overnight!!! Good Luck!

Ok tex...sounds like your on the right track diet wise...and 160 oz of water would kill me...so your doing great there....and fly is right...you just need to lift...I ran all day and got thin...but I had to run farther and eat less and less to maintain..now that I have added weights I can eat more..I can even cheat every once in awhile without gaining 6 pounds over night...the best part has been the inches gone...I've lost very little weight...but the inches are gone...and so are those cellulite bumps.I really suggest as fly does that you find a weight program here..I think the gaining mass program offers the most...try it six weeks...if you hate it...OK..but I don't think you will...
And velasca...I'm older than you so I should have known better...lets just say things will CLIMB into place!!:) |

txnmom--you and I are very close in height and weight (except I don't have that hourglass!) and I think have similar goals. I am trying to reduce bodyfat, and at this point I really have no clue what that will mean in terms of lbs. When I first came here and started working out I had the same frustrations as you. I cleaned up my diet and started one of the workout programs here and after 12 weeks I really hadn't seen any huge difference. However, after six months of 4-6 days in the gym lifing heavy weights and doing 3-5 days of cardio, I am finally starting to like the way I look naked! (that is the point really, isn't it?).
Plain and simple you can get there with lots of hard work and even more patience. The harder you work, the more you will see results, and there is nothing more motivating than that. |

God I love you guys for actually taking the time to read and respond to me. So, much thanks there!!!! :)
I did get the fitness program but, I sighed up for the lose fat and tone one. I do have fat and lots of it on my hips (damn those things, lol). So, now what should I do? Should I change it to the increase mass one? I hope ya'll hear this message because I don't want to do one if it's not going to do anything for me. Thanks!!!! :) |

You can still get results from that program. That's the only one I ever used. If you want to modify the current program to focus on putting on more muscle, you can reduce the reps and increase the weight. For example, where the program calls for 12 reps, use a weight that you can only lift for 8 to 10. I don't think the exercises themselves are that different (if at all), mostly the number of reps, hence for more reps you would need to use a lighter weight. Nothing says you can't change things a bit...that's what I started doing. Also, I moved up to intermediate after the first 8 weeks on beginner. You will be given more exercises per muscle group on the intermediate program.
I guess KC has done both, so she would know the differences better than me. If you've already started the one, I'd say give it a couple of weeks. Whichever one you use, you just need to make sure you're always using a weight that is really making your muscles work! |

txnmom- I will send you an email of the progarm that has been working for KC and msmogreen and fly and myself - we have all been doing it for a month and have lost inches and pounds.
You really need to stop weighing yourself all of the time , it is a self-defeating head game. Online bodyfat measurements are not very accurate. neither is BMI when you are muscualr - at competition weight of 145 and 9-10% bodyfat I was considered obese by the BMI charts for my height. Anyhow _ I will send you the info, but if you keep asking everyone what to do and then arguing that you are doing everything right, why ask? Stop weighing yourself so much, focus on lifting heavy and eating right, your results will come. -------------- There is more to us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps for the rest of our lives we will be unwilling to settle for less. Kurt Hahn |

msmogreen and asimmer,
Thak you so much for your valueable input. I promise not to weigh muself everyday. I know that good things come to those who wait. My week starts on Monday this week and have already gotten a little bit of a head start. I have printed everything that I need and got a new pair of Nike pants (clothes always get me motivated :) ) and I am really siked for this. Today I went roller skating with my children who were envited to a birthday party and it was so much fn that I think I am going to take that on for my cardio workouts combined with Tae Bo and walking at a fast pace. Asimmer, Your right! I have been asking for help too uch and then arguing that I was doing everything right. Nothing like sticking you foot in your own mouth. Time to really try harder. Thanks!!! This week I will probably pretty quiet on the board due to the holiday, but I will come on and input my daily stats for my workouts and food. Thanks again!!! txnmom :) |
