what kind of aerobic/cardio activites do you do that has lead to all of those impressive numbers of lbs burning away? besides a well balanced diet.

It's all about metabolism and heart rate.

Try to do a search and you'll find great info.

I do a variety of cardio. It keeps the body from getting used to it and it helps to prevent boredom or a drag with doing cardio.

Philia is right. I eat 5-7 little meals a day to fuel my metabolism, and then you need to do cardio at least 5 times a week. I have lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks, by watching my calorie, carb, protein, and fat intake, doing cardio 6 days a week, an hour at a time, and drinking lots of water, it is melting it off me, even though it is said that you should try not to lose more than 2 lbs. in a week. I really think I need to be more patient and not push my body so hard. But you need to keep your metabolism healthy and get your heart rate up when doing your cardio. Running, jogging, walking, or aerobics, anything that will get you moving. Hope this helps.

I have lost a little over 15 lbs in my 5th week here. The key is not to consume more calories than you burn off. I cycle daily 20 km. I practice Martial Arts 3 hours three times a week lot of cardio there. Plus I am doing the 12 week ab program & the at home work out here with ft. Also walk a lot have two Black Labs I run till they cant keep up then walk with them about 1 hour 4 days a week. There are a lot of different activities available swimming is also a favorite in the summer for me. Hope this help you

I can't imagine loosing too much wait. I strive for 10 to 15 hours of cardio a week. In total I have lost 35 lbs in about a year the last 15 have been with ft in the last 4 weeks I was kinda stalled for a while but back at it now thanks to ft.

If you loose more than 2 lbs a week, you are loosing more than just fat, you are also loosing muscle. You don't have to do cardio to loose weight, resistance training alone can do it for you. I've lost 28 pounds in 6 months with no cardio. Keep track of your caloric intake, and go 500-1000 calories below maint.

Yes and no roelof, we all need to do some cardio for the ST fibres and for better oxygenation (did I spell that one right?!!).
But it's true that in time of bulking you'll have to avoid catabolism by doing too much cardio training.

i don't know if this is post is dead, but oh well. I was wondering, instead of the insane amount of cardio and exercise i see you guys doing (I'm actually impressed but I don't have the stamina or time to do that much), I was wondering, what kind of and how much of cardio would you recommend for someone trying to lose fat (mostly off of lower chest, lower abs, obliques, and butt)/

You cannot lose fat in specific areas. You need to eat a clean diet and exercise.

Late reply to SRZrasoul.
I have trimmed 43 pounds in just under 5 months. Key has been discipline in diet and exercise.
Cardio: First two weeks I walked for 30 minutes 4x a week. Following three weeks jogged 30 minutes 4x a week.
To date ran/run 45 minutes 4x a week. Currently get in five miles in the 45 minutes gallop.
This is the cardio portion, however haev also put in around 45 minutes of weight training after the cardio.
I can't isolate, which has benefitted in weight loss, but assume that it's the combination. Remember my objective is to lose weight and at the same time "reconstruct" and shape/tone my body. Still have around 13 pounds to go before I achieve my goal of 200lbs, I'm 6.2., showing the extra baggage around my belly and sides.

IF you lose more than 2 pounds week, it doesnt mean tat you are losing muscle an watre too, its just that it depends on the physical condition that you are in,. i lost 47 pounds of pure fat while maintaning my lean muscle, and in the first week, i lost just under 10 pounds, but that was becaus eof exxecive cardio and a strict diet.

As stated, you cannot spot reduce. Your body decides which fat to burn, and it usually hangs on to belly for men and thighs/hips for women until it's burned all the other fat.

Clean diet, go 300-700 calories or so below your daily burn rate (BMR + activity) do your weight training and cardio and get plenty of protein, moderate amount of carbs, and a small amount of fat everyday, in a nutshell.

FWIW, I used Atkins (flame suit ON) to drop about 80 pounds but I was monitoring my BF% to make sure I didn't start loosing lean mass. As soon as I started loosing lean mass, I changed my diet by increasing protein and adding some carbs (more fruit and veggies) and I am working out with more intensity using the FT program.

The first month after the change saw an increase in lean mass and a decrease in fat. I still have quite a bit of fat to loose but right now I am concentrating on adding muscle. More muscle = higher metabolism. My weight hasn't moved much on the scale so I will have to see how the BF% is at the beginning of next month.

My sister in law and I have been working out for a week. We have been doing alot of cardio only because we were told to just walk. We walk but we walk with slight speed and incline. The thing I am concerned about is what to eat. I know you have to watch calories and fat. and that you have to eat lots of fruit. We are ignorant whenit comes to health lol. We just want to be on the right track. I am a mother of three and that is where my weight came from. If someone could please give me insight on what to do i will be so happy and more informed lol.

hey babydollwebster, from what i understand you dont have to eat lots of fruit, you gotta add in some veggies (which is my issue) apparently there's alot of them that have fiber and good carbs. i do believe in the buddy system so working with your s-i-l sounds like a good ideal, i've been going to the gym with a friend of mine for the last few weeks. we do some cardio (15min on treadmil and 15min on this stride machine the one where you use your arms) and we work on resistance/wieght machines.
another thing about fruits, when i was on the diabetic diet during my pregnancy the docs didnt want me to eat very much if any because of the sugar. so i'm thinking alot of fruits cant be too good, but i could be wrong.

without knowing the specifics of what your current diet and exercise routine is, it is really difficult to advise you. Why not start a new post in the beginner forum and fill out your profile to get more useful advice

your diet is probably way out of whack and your time at the gym may be not enough, like Fly said, its hard to tell with no diet info or even knowing if you are male or female for that matter ???
