Personal trainer app...what to ask?

Im reallyyyy determined to get this thing going!

So Ive booked a consultation with a PT at my gym. She seems nice, Ive not seen her about PT'ing that much, as she runs the studio etc also. I kind of wanted the woman ive seen about all the time PT'ing, but shes sooo fully booked unfortunatly so Ive had to book this one. Shes probably just as good though! Im just a bit wearing as I havnt seen her do it!

Anyway, I digress...

Basically I want everyones advice on what I should ask/tell her.

My goals basically are to build more muscle, maintain my weight, gain strength, learn about what Im doing/why etc, do more body weight/free weight exercises rather than machines, and to know how much cardio to do etc.

Ok, Im pretty nervous about saying this bit...

I havnt mentioned this before on here (although I havnt done many posts!) but in the (not to distant) past ive suffered with a pretty serious eating disorder. Its something I will always struggle with to an extent and I still do struggle, but in different context. Ive got a therapist who I still see regulary and its pretty under control, but I dunno whether or not I should tell my PT and how to approach it etc.

Fitness is pretty much what keeps me healthy and stops me from wanting to go back where I was. It keeps me sane (ish!!). Also, in my clinic they pretty much had no practical exercise/diet/healthy living education. It was pretty much just telling us all, regardless of age size etc, to eat 2000 calories a day and not do much exercise. That and making us eat cake/crisps etc and telling us its 'ok to do that'!

I cant fault them in the phycs sense really, but they kind of did send me away at my healthy weight not knowing what the hell to do food/exercise wise!

So ive worked a bit out myself, adapted my calories, started a routine etc, but I still dont know really what I need to eat/should be eating to sustain my weight.

I guess I should tell my pt, and then I guess she'd probably be able to help moreso also, but I dont want her to then react by not actually challenging me etc!

I know I dont want to be back where I was, I want to be fit&healthy! Im pretty conscious of not wanting everyone to view me as 'the one with the eating disorder' anymore and worry that this will lead me to get this 'title' in the gym!

So I guess Im asking what I should do with regards to telling her that firstly, then how to get across my goals (nutrition, weight maintainance, building muscle, learning techniques, finding out what exactly it is my body can do...).

Also, Im not sure how many of you are pts etc on here, but you all know an awful lot, what would you do with a client in my current situation. Would you be weary etc?

Im meeting her tomorrow by the way! So Im holding out hope that for some reason youll all be overcome with the urge to come online right now!

well - this is probably too late, but anyhow...

Make sure she is certififed by an accredited Organization - NETA, ACE, ISSA, there are some others, just ask about her certification and be sure it isn't just the mini-cert from the club.

You do need to tell her about your eating disorder so she is aware of it. It shouldn't mean she won't push you hard enough.

She should ask you about your goals and you should tell her/ask her all the things you have mentioned in this post about why you are doing the things you are doing/what each exercise works, etc.

Hey! I had my app, its not too late though coz were still discussing things, I havnt really said about the food stuff yet, we mainly did health checks and things.

It was all very impressive! Blood pressure&Bioelectrical Impedance Testing. I didnt know they did all that!

So my blood pressure was low, but It always had been, knew that anyway :) (93/64..might mean more to you than it does to me!)

My body fat was 16.8%, my body water was 16.7%.

My minimum ideal weight for my height is apparently 48kgs, im 46.6kgs. She said they 'recommend' you gain fat, but were gonna work on the muscle :)

I told her a rough outline of what I want, but were gonna go into it more on my first session, which is wednesday.

Shes all qualified & etc :) so I can tick that one off!

The Bioelectrical Impedance thing measured my bmr and my estimated rec. intake of cals too.

My bmr was 1376, my rec intake was 2312!

Im eating about 1400 at the moment and kind of staying stationary, so I guess im majorly in starvation mode, but ill talk to her about that, hopefully she'll help me get out of that somehow.

She seems a bit meek, but shes smiley and friendly and I guess you cant tell from a health assessment how someones going to be. Im pretty excited, although theres gonna be more to go through when she gives me an outline of the plan.

Good to hear things are going well, so far.

I'm shocked by the body water percentage. Only 16.7% You should be much higher than that. Make sure you are getting plenty of water.

I'm not surprised about the amount of calories they want you to look at having. Don't jump right up to it, but gradually add. It'll take some time, but you'll get used to eating that much. Plus, the more you work out, the more food (healthy food) you'll need.

Sorry to shock you, typo! 67.1% is what I meant, apparently thats slightly high? Hence the rentention theory?

I was suprised! But id rather work my way up than be in starvation mode/unhealthy/not able to build muscle.

Whew... I'm not sure being 67% water is all bad... I'm right around 50% or so... which is higher than average, I believe.
