ok..this is my second post for the night..but i have insomnia..sigh..
I have changed my eating habits and lost a good chunk of weight..25#ish to go.. like i mentioned in my other post i have recetly joined the gym..i do ab/core exercises everyday my core will let me.. today i actually took a rest cause as i started my routine i felt a slight pain and i didnt want hurt myself.. I have read through quite a few of the ab threads/facts but my question is this...does holding a weight help tone or just strengthen or both? -------------- We should conduct ourselves not as if we ought to live for the body, but as if we could not live without it. |

I'm guessing you mean put a weight in your chest while doing your ab work???I'm no expert...especially in the ab department...I just started to use a weight in ab work and you can feel a defineate difference at just five pounds...so in short...I don't know:)...but a bump to the top may get you an answer...

You say this
======================================================= I have read through quite a few of the ab threads/facts ======================================================= Which makes me wonder what threads you read and where you read them if you are doing ab work every day. Yes, added resistance will help abs just like any other muscle but do you also work pecs every day? If you don't work pecs every day, why not? |

But you let the cat out of the bag in your reply PM that tells me you know more than what you are admitting to so I won't cut you any slack. :)

Mike is spot on as usual. Abs every day is doing nothing but burning calories. If you want ab muscles to show...i.e...six pack, yes use a weight, but tone down the amount of work you do. Diet will get you the six pack showing.-------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

ok..so how much of abs can i get away with doing?
as we all know there are different areas of the core/abs..muwahaha..so i should be able to do more than just once a week .. *bats lashes* -------------- We should conduct ourselves not as if we ought to live for the body, but as if we could not live without it. |

They have to recover just like any other muscle. They also get worked during other exercises also.-------------- A little discipline at the table and at the gym might help reduce that belly! Ivan Montreal Canada (City of Festivals) |

I do not know if she wants to rupture them go for it. Carivan and KC are totaly correct as are the rest. If you do them right quality is always better than quanity.-------------- When I consider the short duration of my life, swallowed up in the eternity before and after, the little space which I fill and even can see, engulfed in the infinite immensity of spaces of which I am ignorant and which know me not, I am frightened and am astonished at being here rather than there; for there is no reason why here rather than there, why now rather than then. Who has put me here? By whose order and direction have this place and time been allotted to me? The eternal silence of these infinite spaces frightens me. Blaise Pascal 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

im not gonna rupture them as i listen to my body very carefully..but ty for the concern....and i am aware that my diet is the big key which i am doing already...at this point im just being silly..im gonna start following the ab program on the website more closely...
im just so excited with the progress ive made this year and am so motivated with being back in the gym after all these years....i just wanted to know what i can and cant get away with..if things have changed after all this time...and there is so much conflicting information on the internet and in text...sometimes it just gets confusing... but deep down, like mike said, i do know what to do and i AM listening despite what some may think :) just bear with me :p -------------- We should conduct ourselves not as if we ought to live for the body, but as if we could not live without it. |

Just so everyone knows, I unintentionally set Velasca up for all the above and I apologize for that. What everyone was seeing as hard headed was actually her joking in response to a PM that we had.

mutt is right, i can only do about 20 crunches untill my abs ache so bad i have to wait a second after about a year of that i have a 6pack and that v that people rave about below my stomach, if you do anything right its better than doing something a ton of times completely wrong, it shows

Mike and Velasca I did not mean to comee of as being mean or anything, sorry if that was how it seemed.....I feel abs are a totaly over rated muscle group, not that they are not key in keeping the body healthy lifting wise, just that people forget that they get worked in squats, tricep press downs, deadlifts etc, if those are all done correctly. That was what I MEANT to say and get across.-------------- When I consider the short duration of my life, swallowed up in the eternity before and after, the little space which I fill and even can see, engulfed in the infinite immensity of spaces of which I am ignorant and which know me not, I am frightened and am astonished at being here rather than there; for there is no reason why here rather than there, why now rather than then.
