My g/f wants to lose weight. She is always complaining about how she needs to lose weight. She worksout but I think the problem might be in her diet. I don't know what she eats but she says she gets in 3 meals a day, or something, haven't really talked about it.

I'm just looking for some advice that I can give her on losing weight. Maybe someone can point me to a detailed diet and/or workout plan that she could try.
I know enough, I would have no problem lossing or gaining weight but I don't know how to explain that to her. And I also don't want to come off like I'm trying to be her personal trainer or push her too hard. I just went to give her some good advice.
Anyone wanna post some useful stuff?

search this site there's plenty of info on this.......

3 meals doesn't say much....if she's eating 3 meals at McDonalds...that doesn't mean it's healthy....she could be eating too large meals...not eating enough of certain foods which suppress appetite/cravings, etc....

Also just because she says she works out doesn't mean she either works out enough or correctly...I see plenty of out of shape women/men chatting it up in the gym.... belonging to a gym and using it are different....please don't take this negatively because this is not my intention...but I just think many people unintentionally lie to themselves about things like this....if you're a fairly experienced lifter go with your gf, and watch her workouts....make sure she does the right poundages, volume, technique, etc, ....

also there's an example of things to eat...in Beginner Bodybuilding....'BodyBuilders Grocery list...it's fairly complete list of things to shop and cook...but like I said initially search this website using 'FitBuddy' at the bottom of the page....

Thanks menace3000 and asimmer.
I thought about going along with her to the gym but that won't work because...reasons. I'm not sure what type of food she is eating but something tells me that should could work on that first. I'll try and find out. And I may just try and mention freetrainers to her but I don't think she'll go for it. I'm also going to print out the grocery list and mention it to her.
One other thing though. How much alcohol would it be ok to consume without ruining a "diet".
Thanks

3 meals per day of any kind is not enough, too long inbetween and will slow metabolic rate to compensate, thus actually storing fat.

Well I can tell you that I done the same thing. Meaning told my husband that I needed to lose weight and he told me he didn't know what to say, because of the same reason as you, but I need him as a trainer. Be there for me when I have a craving, but not hungry. So being her personal trainer, might be a good thing. Only in my option though.

I liked the idea. Only we do not live together so having to make the drive at the time that she worksout is really inconvenient for me. I just can't make it to the gym with her with our schedules. Also, I'm not sure how to approach on her the weight issue. Anybody else and I have no problem, but this feels different.

next time she brings it up (whatever you do - don't you bring it up - that is asking for a fight) - ask her what you can do to help her

if you do give her the diet - pretend it is something that you are thinking of trying & see if she wants to try it with you - you want her help with this not she needs it

I agree with the more meals suggestion, I have truly watched "thin" individuals during this past six months and have noticed that they eat and eat and eat! My father, for example, is going to be 64 in March and he is extremely active and looks fabulously fit, and he eats all the time, but good stuff! He brings apples, oranges, peanut butter sandwiches, etc. with him everywhere he goes! He rarely eats out even though he is a very wealthy man and could dine out daily but choses to carry his lunch everywhere, he has done this since before I was born I have been told. WHY I couldn't pick up on his habits is beyond me, but I certainly picked up on my mother's (bless her heart)! I really think there is much to be said about it as you can watch a thinner persons eating habits and they will even say sometimes, "I eat like a horse" and they DO, but good stuff and smaller, more meals! I'm a believer, especially after learning here at FT!
