Lets say I were to smoke marijuana, maybe 5-10 times a month. How significant of an effect would it have on running?

it's harsher on your lungs than cigarettes are since there is no filter, so it will obviously have a negative effect, but you don't smoke it as much as you would cigarettes, so as far as cardio goes, cigs would have more of a negative effect than weed, but it's still going to hurt it.

Well, I thought it was kind of obvious that getting smoke of any kind into your lungs was a bad thing. Hence, why firefighters wear masks.

Sorry but you are asking serious people who are serious about fitness and health advice on something that society knows full well doesn't co-exist with fitness, what kind of answer do you expect, really?
These questions to me aren't from someone who is serious about fitness, it is more a searching of what they can get away with and still get/maintain a nice body. Which is why most of us members find this another one of those amusing questions. -------------- Bettia You Get What You Train For! - Unknown |

Come on man. You come to a fitness website and ask about smoking pot....get real. That would be like if I went to the mothers against drunk driving website and ask....how bad does drinking 5-10 times a month make it to drive...
You knew what you would get back. Don't ask dumb questions if you don't want dumb responses. |

I don't know, but I would personally think it would be very hard to run while smoking pot. Aside from Charlie's already mentioned "bong" issue, would you really get anywhere?
Pot smoker one: "Dude! I'm like running SOOOOOO fast!" Pot smoker two: "No you're not dude, you're sitting in the lazy boy" Pot smoker one: "Oh, yeah. SWEET!" |

Gotta chime in here. POT WILL HURT YOUR CARDIO! I run 3-4 times a week and I notice that just going to bars where it is somewhat smokey on the weekends hurts my run. I almost feel like I smoked that weekend. Any kind of smoke inhalation is going to significantly impact your cardio. Don't do it. PERIOD.

haha steve, your on a roll tonight :big_smile:
But let me add my two cent here, because contrary to popular belief, marijuana used correctly is now being used to help fight Copd lung disease and severe asthma, thou it is not smoked per say, it is vaporized, or heated to the point where the thc crystals on the buds form a high powered vapor which is inhaled, no carcinogens, no bad smoke just natures own herbal remedy. I guess the thc helps the lung tissue relax and become more flexible after treatment, and i will also say that after my chemo treatments, i have been known to roll a cheech and chong bone or two, helps with the nausea and gives ys the munchies, but i wouldnt be running a marathon afterwards ill tell ya that.....:cool: -------------- Let me show you Sweet smell of a delicate whisper Behind the vision of gardens Go and read of your life Tiny ripping at the heart Drunk from a rose |

You know, Willie Nelson smokes a bowl every morning when he gets up. And look at how healthy he is! ha ha. Seriously though, isn't he like 104 years old? I guess if I had that kind of money I'd smoke a bowl every day too. lol

============
Quoting from elpea120: I have another question that is a little off topic i guess, but what kind of health effects can eating marijuana have? ============= Still no good; can be even worse. Nausea is common, and there's a greater risk of overdosing. Because the stomach doesn't absorb marijuana evenly, it's harder to estimate how much they need to eat to get high. There's also a delay in the time it takes for the drug to have its effect. This can cause people to think that they haven't eaten enough marijuana to get high, so they continue to eat more. Symptoms of marijuana overdose may include disorientation, feeling delirious or feverish, and can be followed by hangover or stupor. In some severe cases, people who overdose may also become extremely paranoid, hallucinate, or have panic attacks. Additional side effects are still traditional: dry mouth, blood-shot eyes, and increased heart rate and blood pressure. Moreover, these effects may actually be more severe and last longer because marijuana has a stronger, more prolonged effect on the body when it's eaten. So think about this would make normal activities (driving, etc.) more dangerous. -------------- Michael Humble, even in Victory. |
