I haven't posted anything yet, and I am really into listening to music when I work out. I'm sure that a good number of you have portable MP3's or CD players. Thought it would be fun to get people to post their top three albums to listen to when working out. Music is one of the best supplements I know of when working out. By the way I am doing the 12 week muscle mass building program provided on this site and it is working out great. So here are my favs:

1) Led Zeppelin II. Jimmy Page's guitar makes me workout twice as hard. Nothing like some classic rock to get you going. Usually makes the rotation at least once a week.

2) Shawn Lane: Tri Tone Fascination. This guy can play guitar. Puts guys like Satriani and Steve Vai to shame.

3) Minor Threat: Singles Collection. As far as punk music goes, these guys played some of the fastest, angriest combinations of two and three chords ever. Always gets me pumped to listen to this.

So, what do you listen too?

Anything that is upbeat. I'm into all kinds of music. Once the song slows down, I tend to slow down too.

Mine's an MP3 player so I make CD's pre-planned for working out - including a slow Coldplay song now and then to slow me down - otherwise I'm full tilt!

Used to be serious Metallica but got tired of it after a year or so, will revisit . . .

Currently: Linkin Park, Nickelback, Geddy Lee, Rush, Puddle of Mudd (guess I'm too old for the Static X/Slipknot stuff.)

Not much choice at my gym! My md player is broken, so its wall to wall mtv for me.
However...nothing can possibly beat any music from the Rocky films. It gets me right there! *sob*!

Foo Fighters
Janes Addiction
White Stripes
Led Zeppelin
Pearl Jam

I too have an MP3 player so I just pick the high tempo songs from these and other similar artists and ironically I am with I_Am-azon on the slow Coldplay song to bring me back down. Good stuff, thinking about what I have on my MP3 player makes me want to run for the gym right now, only a few more minutes until I can cut out of here.

In Flames - Any album of theirs will do
Burnt by the Sun - Any album of theirs...
Old school Metallica - The heavier stuff
Nora
Killswitch Engage
Martyr AD
At the Gates...

Anything that is heavy like whoa. Gotta be stoked to rip sh*t up in the gym.

My band has a harder edge. If you want to hear a sample of what's to come, cehck out http://www.oddsvs.com/av/Trebuchet.mp3
Until we get into the studio, that's the best recording we can come up with. But I like throwing it into mix's for my workouts. ;)

LMAO @ Kalanchoe, it is called "Lose Yourself". You said right in your post..lol

that is a good song, along with many of his others. THe lyrics are a bit brash sometimes but the beats are awesome.

1) The Cure - Disintegration
2) Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
3) Lords of Acid - Our Little Secret

Anything industrial makes me perform better at the gym. It's all about setting the right mood.

I like anything heavy!
Metallica
Static X
Linkin Park
Limp Biscuit
Rob Zombie
and the list goes on...
The odd time I'll through in some old dance songs or 80's just to mix it up a little, but heavy metal is really what gets me going! And its so true for me if the song slows down i slow down so i try to keep it fast and heavy at all points unless im doing my cooldown and stretching

If you want to listen to some REAL hard, heavy music, then nothing beats Slayer, Sepultura's older music, Soulfly, Hatebreed or Arch Enemy. This is the best music to get pumped up to and to listen to during a workout. I to am a metal fan at heart.

the heavy stuff gives me the explosive hardcore energy to push the heavy weights - system of a down, tool, linkin park, bizkit, fear factory, the vines

the melodic punk keeps me happy - jimmy eat world, unwritten law, good charlotte - nice and lite :)

This may sound lame but I start every workout listening to Van Halen - Right Now:
Don't wanna wait til tomorrow,
Why put it off another day?
One more walk through problems,
Built up, and stand in our way ,ah
One step ahead, one step behind me
Now you gotta run to get even
Make future plans, don't dream about yesterday, hey
C'mon turn, turn this thing around
Right now, hey
It's your tomorrow
Right now,
C'mon,it's everything
Right now,
Catch a magic moment, do it
Right here and now
It means everything...........

It's very inspiration for me, I guess it just reminds me of the goals I have set for myself and that I'm not going get there by putting it off.
Then it's usually off to more Van Halen, Sheryl Crow, Indigo Girls, Hole, Metallica, Pink, Eminem, Kid Rock, I'm all over the board...

In the last 8 weeks or so in my workouts I've graduated to Tool, Godhead, Disturbed, Slipknot, Mudvayne, System of a Down, Stone Sour, Fuel, Pantera. I used to hate it. Now I can't work out without it. Nickelback-type stuff doesn't do it anymore. Gotta plug into the primeval!

Trance is cool. I have a friend who spins and he made me some music... mostly trance and some jungle. I also listen to ska and brass monkey. Tool is still a fav band, Godflesh, Lords of Acid, Ministry, KMFDM. Drives Like Jehu is a really good punk band because they are so hyper.

I'm angry as hell and I want to kill, so the songs that help me walk into the gym and make the nautilus machines scurry into a corner and the freeweights play dead are:

Limp Bizkit--Rollin, Faith (A fine-tuned, eloquent murder of the George Michael original, truly beautiful and electric), Break Stuff

Outkast, Snoop Dogg and Tupac--Rosa Parks Remix

After those few, if I'm not busy picking up whatever I broke, there's these:
Xecutioners w/Linkin Park--It's Going Down
DMX--My Niggas (Any Given Sunday Soundtrack)
Rage Against the Machine--Killing in the Name of, Sleep Now in the Fire, Guerilla Radio, Testify

To calm down there is a sweet mix out now with Dave Mathews and DMX-- Crash, also Gladiator Theme Music from the movie and some more laid back Tupac stuff

Eminem is ok, but he lost my respect when he started trying harder to rhyme than to make any sense...Shakespeare would be irascible if woken to see such shame :))

Anything but what they play in our gym!! I think if I hear that song about I put your picture away, you know, I think Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock maybe??? I will scream! Feel like I should be in a bar with a Bud crying instead of in the gym! I need something to get me moving. Some good old Jimi Hendrix will always do the trick!!
