Hey..

I'm planning to move to California for a couple of years. I'm the type of person whom can't spend his entire life in one location.. scary stuff. So anyways.. it won't be for another year or so, but anyone here from Cali? Any recommendations?

I'm not looking for LA.. but the more 'cozy'.. 'upscale' areas.. thanks!

Arnold, why don't you look into San Francisco or San Diego? Both are definitely "upscale"...but I guess that depends on what your definition is. Beverly Hills is in L.A. and that's VERY upscale...

I agree with what Robert said, it depends of if you want hippies, or yuppies.

.. well beverly hills is a little to much.. but so is downtown LA! I just want a change of scene.. there is only so much that Canada can offer.

My friends is from San Fran and loves it.. but I think I want to go a bit further south.

What kind of work do you do? That's a big factor also. The furthern northern parts of California rule, but work is mostly lumber oriented.

In between LA and SF is really farm country. You don't have to live in SF...there are many suburbs that are much warmer!

Orange County is the up-and-coming area for SoCal. Some beautiful areas there, especially Laguna and Newport Beach.

North County San Diego is cool, too, except for the traffic. Me, I love the San Diego beaches Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach. Some great gyms around there too.

SF Bay Area is a really cool place to live but it's expensive. San Diego county is also great- Upscale would be La Jolla or you could go north a little and hit Rancho Bernardo or Poway. You'd have the San Diego zoo and balboa park as well. You should just come on out and visit, see what you think.

I agree with sdmusclebuddy. I used to live in San Diego but work took me away, fortunatly I am only 2 hours away and live in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains. I have grown to love the mountains as much as I used to like the beach. It depends on what kind of climate you want. In So.Cal. there is just about any type around.

How about Malibu? Or a little further up the coast is Ventura/Oxnard. Mostly farm country, but still a nice area? Are you wanting to be on the coast or further inland?

I'm from California and I love it here. Pasadena is nice and upscale and the weather is always beautiful but it's kind of part of L.A. Pleasanton is cozy and upscale. It's very close to San Francisco but you don't get too much of the hustle bustle of the city. I love it there!
