I am 18 years old, 5'9 and 150 lbs. I have been working out for about 7 months now and have noticed some improvements but not as much as I would hope. I work out about 6 days a week rotating chest/tris, backs/bis, and shoulders with different ab workouts everyday. Im usually at the gym working out pretty hard for about an hour and a half. Would it be more beneficial if I took more breaks? I don't feel that it has been any chance of injury so I'm asking from a purely results standpoint. Thanks.

There is a saying that muscles are not built in the gym but in the kitchen....look at your diet. Second is 7 months with out a break is a long time. Take a few days off totaly. recharge then get back to it.

As a quarter squatter was dominating the rack, I heard a conversation between an old powerlifter (easily in his 60\\'s) and what I would guess was his grandson (15-yrs old):

Kid: \\"So, why does he stop so short on his squats? That looks weird to me.\\"

Old PL\\'er: \\"He\\'s afraid if he squats deep, his vagina might touch the ground.\\"

You are pretty much the exact same size and weight as my guy, and he is in the marines. You genes might not be right to develop huge amounts of muscles really easily. Just my opinion though. You might be an ectomorph. Check out this site and see if you learn something

Texan sunrise: I would say that I am somewhere in between and ectomorph and mesomorph. I was not a stick to begin with but I was pretty lean...I recently starting taking muscle milk recently because it is so high in calories and fat, was that a good move?

Rest is a big part of building muscle also, make sure you get plenty of it on your off days....

So you are an ectomesomorph. That site isn't exactly a great description of different body types. There are combinations, like being an ectomesomorph.

see if this site helps any

I think it's better to work out 3 days than 6...even 2 would probably work better...Unless you're a professional athlete or very advanced lifter I would not spend mroe than 4 days in the gym lifting weights...

Unless you're a professional bodybuilder I would also rethink the whole 'bodypart' split. Focus on big lifts instead...try something like 5x5 or push/pull/squat...etc

Well my goal is mostly upper body because for some reason my legs are naturally stronger than my upper body. I have planned on starting legs once my upper body caught up...Plus i work out at my college fitness center which is really lacks enough leg equipment

I think that's a BS excuse to not do legs. You work out 6 days a week and can't find time to do a few sets of squats? Doing leg workouts have a lot of carry over to overall total body strength. You are short changing yourself by trying to look like a lightbulb, lol.

What do you mean your legs are naturally stronger than your upper body? Of course they are! They're supposed to be!

And all you need is a rack and a barbell.

Ok I guess that your obsession with squats is blinding you from answering my initial question...I obviously didn't mean "naturally stronger" in the sense they are more powerful, but actually larger and more muscular. You act like Im too lazy to work out my legs when in reality they just are not part of my goal at the moment. With that said thanks for all the tips but being demeaning doesnt make me want to follow your advice for future reference.

I think what wrestler means is that if you do not at least do a few sets of squats or lunges along with the workouts with your arms, you might end up looking unbalanced. Kinda like the guys that have big upper bodies but really little legs. They look unbalanced. You don't have to work your legs out intensely, but if you don't exercise them, you might end up unbalanced. Besides, you should work your legs out because it helps your butt look good, and as a girl I can tell you that girls like guys with nice butts. I'm assuming you are male, coz girls usually aren't really worried about their arms being big and ripply. If not, please correct me.

Bro, I am not going to harp on the leg thing although you should throw them in there, but change up a little. If you feel you are not getting results, use dumbells instead of barbells for chest. Instead of traditional barbell curls, do some 21s. Is all about not letting your body get use to your routine. In addition ,try to get some rest. 6 days of weightlifting seems a little excessive and I cannot see where the time for the muscle to rest and grow is occuring. Remember, muscle is made outside the gym and not inside. EXERCISE+PROPER DIET+REST=MUSCLE GROWTH
