One of my Overweight co-workers just told me that coffee was a hindereanc eto weight (fat loss) I have never heard such a thing. Another co-worker then backs it up. Now I can not say that I know all the weight loss tricks but I tend to keep up on the weight control and fitness issues. Did this slide by me somehow?

Anything in excess (caffiene!) isn't good for anything, but, though I'm not a coffee drinker, I'll go ahead and say that probably the main culprits with coffee and fat loss would be the huge amounts of cream and sugar that most people dump into their cup o' joe...

I know people who have done great diets while still having their coffee. I agree with Rev, my guess is it's the cream and sugar that would get you into trouble.

Absolutely ...the cream and sugar! Think about it, if you take 4 tsp of sugar in each cup like I used to do, along with some good 10% cream 4-5X a day thats a lot of BAD calories! Try and go to black or at least just with 1% milk. You will get used to it, and never like sugar again.

OMG Carivan 4 tsp's per cup!!! LOL, well, I am glad to admit that I am a coffee drinker, though I had cut down extremely just cause I have enough energy, which is why i started drinking it in the first place. if you must have flavoring, do so moderately and you an still havea great outcome and be reasonable at how many cups a day you drink. Do you really need 3,4 or even 5 cups? I think not!

You can also try decaffeinated if you like to drink it for the flavor. Good luck!

I remember reading somewhere that coffee could be detrimental to weight loss because people often associate coffee w/ donuts and such...and then tend to want the donuts due to the coffee...

I often get jittery after even a cup of coffee. It's so sad cuz I love the lift and the taste, just hate the jitters.

Coffee is also a diuretic. I wouldn't worry about it.
Enjoy those espresso's, latte's, cappucinos...lol

Hi there!! I drink coffee ALOT and I only use the Fat Free coffee mate liquid creamer. Is this a bad thing? Are there other alternatives? The reason I ask is because that substitutes the sugar.

Just use skim milk and raw sugar. Try and stay away from processed stuff.

"Excess caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent" Atkins book

That is the only place that I have found where they say why. I"m sure someone could explain it better
