A safe average is about 2-3 pounds per week...
However, it may be more when you start out for the first few weeks, but slowly taper off to slower weight loss.
What is this 'new thing?'

It is most likely water weight for the immediate loss. if it continues I would have to think that there is a large amount of muscle loss along with fat loss.
Go with 2-3 per week. Eat clean and keep up the exercise and this should minimize muscle loss. Just because the scale reads less doesn't mean you're losing all fat.

The only way that it will continue to work is if you are losing a good deal of muscle along with the fat.
and as Tim said, it won't work for long.

Eating 2 light meals a day will train your body to store fat more easily. By starving yourself like this, your body is not sure when it is going to be fed again. As a result, your metabolism slows down significantly and the body clings to any fuel that comes its way. It will also eat your muscles for fuel it needs to. While you may lose initially, this spells disaster for any long term maintenance goals. The consequence are even worse if go back to your old habits. I guarantee you will gain more back. Soon you probably feel pretty weak and your energy levels will likely be in a constant state of depletion. From your profile, it looks like you are new to this. Just so you know, drinking is not conducive to weight loss and last time I checked, losing muscle mass is not a way to look good for ladies. It is great that you have a goal, you just need to reevaluate how to achieve it. This site has tons of great info, so keep reading and you learn a lot.
