Hey guys,
I just got some omega 3-6-9 and I am wondering what time of day I should take the capsule, if it makes a difference.
Thanks

I take it with my 1st meal of the day and with my Supper.

I take 5 caps each time.

Why not with each meal. As I am a fan of 'balanced' meals, this works out well.

Also well researched papers suggest 6-8 gr. is optimal, so makes it easy to spread out.

I take 4-5g with breakfast and 4-5g with dinner or before sleep....

Main thing is to take it...to avoid aftertaste timing it with a meal is a good idea...that is if u take the regular non-enteric coated capsules...

Thanks for the feedback guys.
The package on mine says to take one capsule per day. When you guys take more than that do you have smaller capsules or are you just taking more than suggested?

most capsules i see are in the range of 1000mg (1g), and are about as big a pill as I am willing to try to swallow. With 6-8 grams being the best range to achieve, that's 6-8 of those things each day. The biggest I have seen them get is 1300mg (1.3g), which would still require you to take 5-6 of them a day to achieve the optimal range.

Yep, you are correct. Most average 1 gr. So is it hard to take 2 with each meal to get optimal benefits?

I just take all of mine, typically 4 tablets(mine are 1200mg), first thing in the morning and then have my breakfast. Not ideal, but it's the only way I'll remember to take them. I used to get the dreaded fish burps, but not any more!

What is the sugested serving on the bottle for you guys? I guess its just pretty low on mine so I should take more than it says.
I think each capsule is 1200mg, so would 3 or 4 per day sound good?
Thanks for all the help.

My wife is the same way....if I don't give them to her in the morning, she will never take any others.

However, I believe splitting up the doseage is a much better strategy, as it exerts its best benefits with chronic use rather than acute.

I take 2-3 GRAMS of EPA and DHA, which works out to about 8-12 grams of regular fish oils.

They are best absorbed with some other form of fat (like in a meal, like ron said) so I try to take them with olive oil.

And, early in the morning, when your body is craving nutrition of ANY kind may not be the best way to take them, since your body is being completely indiscriminatory with its nutrients upon waking, it just want's calories.

However, I think what Ron was alluding at was the fact that the best time is the time you will take them.

Otherwise, split it up.

I'm also going to add in that whenever I am having joint problems or similar issues I usually up my intake a bit and find that this helps significantly with how fast I recover from minor injuries.

EPA especially so has been shown to help with joint issues. There are companies out there that sell high EPA content oils.

wrestler when you say you take olive oil what does that mean? I hear people saying they "take" it but does that mean you drink some straight or something. What is the benefit of doing this?
Thanks

I'll mix it with a shake, take a straight shot, or cook a food drenched in olive oil.
The fish oil is best absorbed when it is taken with another fat, so the olive oil improves absorption, as well as being healthy overall.

Any fat soluble vitamin is best utilized with a fat source. Vit. E, A, selenium, CO Q10, etc.

After you've inhaled an ammonia capsule while spreading chalk everywhere, everything else goes down easy.

olive oil in general would be good for you.
I try to cook with it as often as possible and put it over my food whenever I can.

What about just eating olives. I eat alot of olives from the jar but that might be alot of extra salt.
As you can see I am very interested in becoming more healthy in general, not just building muscle, sorry for all the questions.

Don't be, that's how you learn.
Olives contain the same lipid concentrations as olive oil, although not as concentrated. However, you are right about there being added salt, both for flavoring and preservation purposes.

Remember the other many benefits of fish oil...they contain EPA and DHA. These fatty acids get incorporated in many tissues in the body, including eye, brain, skin, various organs, heart, etc., and research shows could lead to improved microcirculation in blood vessels and capillaries, and decreased blood viscosity.

EPA and DHA are what give fish oil its almost magical properties. They are what actually constitute an omega-3 fatty acid.

Some fish oil products even contain isomers of CLA (conjugated lineolic acid, I think...?), which also has many beneficial effects (it acts similarly to many anti-arthritis medications, but without those minor side effects like... kidney failure.)

Not much in the way of CLA......

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a mixture of positional and geometric isomers of linoleic acid, which is found preferentially in dairy products and meat. Preliminary studies indicate that CLA is a powerful anticancer in the rat breast tumor model with an effective range of 0.1-1% in the diet.

Doesnt it(CLA) also help to keep weight off once you lose it?(ie helps to prevent regaining weight once you lose it)

CLA is best utilized in my opinion on a bulk.

Just thought I would post that since I started using the creatine and worked fish oil in, which was one month ago, I gained 9 pounds and very little fat.
Thanks for the help.

I would not get Omega 3-6-9. Omega 3 is much much more important. You could probably go a full year conciously avoiding W6's and still not be anywhere near deficient. Howver, W3's are a different story.
