I travel a lot for work and missout on my main workouts at my local gym.

What I need is a hotel room workout. Sometimes I get a Hotel without a gym. Any suggestions for doing a full body workout in my room?

if you can get your hands on anything weighted you can press them overhead for delts, curl them for biceps.
dips behind the back for triceps
press ups for chest
Chin ups for back
sissy squats for legs
hamstring kickbacks
single leg calf raises
any number of ab exercises

I believe there is an option to specify that you have no equipment for an FT workout aswell.
If you do have a little money to spare, resistance bands are easily carried and versatile.

Good luck and welcome to FT

I suggest you check out w3.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html.
Find your targeted muscle.
Look at the Weighted or/and Dumbbell exercises.
And rather then using dumbbells, use something weighted.

Weighted items and a Horizontal Bar would be good:
Horiz. Bar: biceps-lats-delts-abs (hardcore ab training)
DumbBell or Item: shoulders-arms-neck-forearms-lower back
Freeweights: chest-legs-abs-calves etc.. etc..

Good luck and welcome to FT

smitherzzz,
I have the same problem. Depending on my travel length of time I will try to stay somewhere with a fitness center or a hotel that offers access to a local gym (Hampton Inns are really good about this). If it is a short trip I will just try to combine exercises into one day.
Good Luck and be safe.

Get a set of dumbells, you can do crunches and twisting crunches and all kinds of exercises. I have had this problem before. The advice which the other ppl have given you is great, follow their advice and things will work out. :):dumbbell::cool:

I just recently saw a set of dumbells that you fill with water and empty when you are done with the workout. I may look into these. Carrying dumbells with you will only add wieght to your luggage which sucks especially if you're flying.

I saw something similar, the weight went up to 16lbs each I think, don't know if that would be any help.

yeah, the plates get pretty gigantic for heavier weights (the water ones)...

if you go to performbetter.com, you can buy rubber exercise tubing that will probably serve your needs quite well, you can find tubing that will give you quite a bit of resistance. and the versatility will let you do just about any exercise you may want.

Just for kicks you can get good strength and agility just doing a basic military workout... eg. push ups, sit ups, pull ups, and running...

haha, puresnowchic, i was gonna say that, lol. Oh well. But remember, u can change the ways u do ur pushups, to work different muscles. Like if u do them with ur arms closer togther, that will do ur triceps, and if u do them far out, itll work the pecs, and u can elevate ur legs, and then itll work ur upper chest. There was a way to do em to make em hit ur lats and shoulders, but i forget how. But there is a decent amount of variety, even if ure in the situation that youre in right now. Ive been there too, haha it sux. O by the way, this board is awesome, i agree!!!

get some bands...... travel with them, they take up lil room. You can do almost every muscle group with them.

curls, extensions, lateral raises, rows, up right rows, front raises, bentover laterals( put on some music and do 20 of each, gives a good pump an dget the heart rate up.Hook them on a door, and you can do flys, bench press pull overs. I could go on an don.

get some pusk up blocks, you can do push ups on them and get a good stretch, and you can put your feet up to incline it, or blocks on somthing to work decline.

legs are easy, run the stairs, b/w squats, one legged squats etc.

if they have a pool swim some laps good for the lats, and works the whole body really.

I have dynabands and a skipping rope at home which are great if you miss a gym session. I took these on a camping trip and while the skipping rope didn't get much use due to lack of a smooth surface, the dynabands were great. Good shoulder, back, and bicep workouts can be achieved as maintenance until the next gym session. Outside that, I like to do 4x25 push ups 5 times a week with legs on a chair to move my centre of gravity from the centre of my body closer to my shoulders. Over time, you get good tricep definition. Ab exercises can be done anywhere!

Hey smitherzzz, you should try calisthetics, resistance bands, and some kind of basic military work out like; puresnowchic suggested. Also you can run a couple flights of stairs in the hotel or run the perimeter of the hotel.
Nice pictures by the way . uhnayibarra@yahoo.com

I just picked up some bands. They do work every part, and I can use them at home and on the road. Good deal.

i travel year round, and when i'm at a hotel that doesn't have a hotel-gym, i usually just go to the nearest walmart and buy myself some free weights. walmart sells a 100 pound kit (with barbell) for around 50-60 bucks, and then i just buy some extra weights. this usually ends up being cheaper than trying to find a gym membership for the couple months i'm at a deployment.

as far as making it work, just use your imagination. here's my ghetto rigged "bench" at the hotel i'm currently staying at:

http://www.midgetsandmonkeys.com/pics/hotelgym.jpg

hey, it works, and that's all that matters. the maids give me weird looks sometimes, but they get over it.

(i also carry some lightweight dumbell handels (weigh like 2-3 pounds) that i use to do dumbell exercises with the weights i bought from wal-mart.
