Here's the Dilly-O on the lifting portion, Charlie can add in the bodyfat and inches gained/lost categories.
I have a spreadsheet that I will enter all contestants' starting weight and maxes. There will be 5 categories that I am tracking: 1. body weight 2. bench increase 3. deadlift increase 4. squat increase 5. overall strength increase (combination of 3-5) For consistency, we should all use the ft calculator to determine our 1 rep max. Put in what you benched/deadlifted/bench pressed and how many reps you did, and it will tell you your one rep max. We start on June 1, so every two weeks after that, get your new weight and maxes and IM them to me. I will update the spreadsheet and either email it out or post it somewhere we can get to it. I'll also publish a summary of results in a post. Remember this is Percentage of Increase.. from where you are on June 1, to where you are on August 1. We are measuring your progresss (or decrease in the instance of body weight)! Your numbers are weighted by your body weight, so you are competing against everyone else, Pound For Pound. Once I have everyone's numbers in the spreadsheet, we can see if there are some contestants that are well-matched for additional head-to-head competitions if interested. You can see the calculations post for questions on how the scoring will be computed.. or you can just trust me:laugh: Suggestions: **use the journal to keep track of your performance during the contest so we can see what your doing and make witty remarks in the appropriate places. **take before pictures now!!! post them for us if you'd like, or just amaze yourself at the change in August. oh.. and .. BRING IT! :dumbbell::dumbbell: |

Ok, IM me if you are participating in BF%, inches lost or gained. Send me current measurements and BF% as computed by you at mybodycomp.com. Edit out the ankle, wrist and knee meaurements because they shouldn't change.
If there are other categories you want competition on post them here. So far chins have been suggested. We need more input. Lets use this location for challange refinements and suggestions and the stickied one for trash talk. -------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie

for the before pictures can we make sure that we look unhappy, are unflexed, and somewhat pale? i find that if you're smiling, flexed, and tan in the after picture it really increases the perception of significant change...

Great thought howdie. Made me laugh.-------------- Would it be classified as overly competitive if I refused to let a 4 year old beat me at chutes and ladders? |

howdie, do you work for bowflex when you're not on this post. I luuuuuuuuuv their "before-after" pictures. It's amazing what 20 minutes a day, 3 times a week will do to an overweight man. Anyhow, I'm off to the gym. I need to work on the deadlift. -------------- In order to live, you must be willing to die. |

Whenever you're ready with your stats andrew (et al), fire 'em off. If you want to be exact and go by what you are on the 1st that's cool.. if you don't anticipate a change between now and then, might as well send it now.

IF anyone wants to see the spreadsheet, I have created a Yahoo ID and posted the file in the briefcase.
IM me for the ID and PW if you are interested in seeing how it works.. all you do is plug in your Body Weight and Max lifts on the first tab, it auto calculates your current lift to mass percentage. Then when you put in numbers for the next week it shows your new percentage, and the second tab will auto calculate your improvements. |

Just a question - I do stiff-legged deadlifts, is that going to be a lot different than traditional dealifts? Should I switch to traditional deadlifts for the challenge?-------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight. |

Yes asmmier they work the lower back and hams differently. In order to compete fairly for you you might want to switch to reg deadlifts....you can lift a lot more with them compared to stiff legged deads.-------------- LIFT HEAVY! BECOME STRONG, LIKE BULL! 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

Well I have to say I am with Amy and I_Am-azon in that I much prefer the SLDL's.. but I did start training on the reg DL's already (and couldn't bend over for three days).
To compete squarely we need to do the same thing, but if necessary I guess we could split the field? I'll go either way <wink> .. I think I'll sit on the fence and go with whichever group I have a better chance in! |

I hope we can do both datdanigirl! I am really trying to build the hammies, and don't want to switch right now if I can help it.
Do you think anyone would be interested in competing in a leg press increase? Also, would DB presses be in a different category the BB? I do not do BB presses anymore (got stuck underneath once, freaked me out a little) |

Sldl is usually done in conjunction with squat/leg day. Deadlift is usually associated with back day. You wimminz can do your little girley lifts any time or day you wish.:big_smile::big_smile:-------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie

SLDL's are for the back also mister! LOL
And we will do our little girlie lifts - but I would like to request you to please stop working out in front of us Charlie! The days of the 80's hot pink aerobic thong gear are gone! and although my abs do like the workout, it's time to get serious. Now burn that stuff wouldja please!!! laugh: |

I got a stunning visual of that, people at work think I'm crying I laughed so hard!
I would like to include all of the above.. DL's for that overall strength combination, then SLDL's and Leg Press as separate lift categories. Correct me if I'm wrong but db presses are pretty different from bb presses aren't they? I know they feel different to me, I feel like I can get alot more power and control with the barbell. |

You are right datdanigirl. They are different. I just do DB because of the above mentioned reason. Perhaps its time for me to quit bein a chickensh** and try again. Just will try and find a spotter first. :)

I haven't ever had a spotter for bb or db presses. I do wait to move up until I can complete 4 reps at a given bb weight. With dbs, I don't push hard because of my rotator cuff issues.
I can still make those pasties spin in opposite directions and change directions at will!!!!! So my chest development must be ok. -------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie

Charlie - you are truly, truly warped. ...A man after my own heart! LOL:love:
Never had a spotter? I didn't that one time and got into a bit of trouble. I could always use the smith, but that machine is always busy  I will try agian for the challenge though :dumbbell::angry::dumbbell: |

No spotter's pretty hardcore. I can't push myself to do a heavy weight with no spotter. I always feel like I could do one more rep, or two, with a little bit of help. What color are the tassels?? -------------- \"Cuz we are the Aqua Teens\" |
