lol hec, i'm sorry but that was hilarious.
totally true though. caffine will severely dehydrate you, and if you don't drink enough water to counteract this, which i'm guessing you don't because of another post that you made, you're going to suffer the consequences on both ends if you know what i mean. anything when done in excess is bad for you. an example of excess would be drinking 20 sodas in one day. if you drank one a day and also drank plenty of water to flush it out, that would be one thing, but drinking nothing but soft drinks is quite another. and if i'm not mistaken, caffine will keep your body from absorbing b-complex vitamins which are essential to healthy bodily function. it's been a while since i was in my nutrition classes, but if i'm wrong someone tell me because i don't want to post bad info. -------------- success comes before work only in the dictionary. that's right. |

I did some poking around in Fit Buddy... a Medium Coke at Burger King has 230 cals... and 56g of sugar... now, not sure if a regular can is any better or worse, but it gives you the idea... a small coke is 160 cals and has 41g of sugar... that's likely closer to the size of a can of Coke... multiply that by 20... well, you get the picture...

in a 12 oz can of coke, there are 140 calories and 39g of sugar. i did the math for you because i am nerdy and i like numbers and statistics and things of that nature.
in drinking 20 cokes you would consume the following daily: 2800 calories <--- all empty i might add 780g of sugar 1000mg of sodium <--- makes you bloated :( add this to the amount of food that you would eat normally in a given day and there is absolutely no way on earth that you could be maintaining your current weight. not to mention the fact that all the water soluble vitamins you'd be taking in wouldn't be absorbed because you'd be completely dehydrated. fryer, even without caffine there is still sugar and acid and other nasty stuff that is bad for your health. if you must drink them however, the key is moderation and lots of water. -------------- success comes before work only in the dictionary. that's right. |

Well howdiekat; I don't drink much soda at all. Maybe a can of that Caffeine Free Diet crap that my wife buys. I gotta have something other then water to choke down that unsalted, unbuttered popcorn that she insist on buying. Nothing like sitting down and watching a good movie with popcorn and a soda. Sheeeeeet, you see what I'm drinking, and eating! Can I at least add something to the popcorn? What would you suggest?

You can get all sorts of flavorings for popcorn, though I'm not sure how healthy they are... there is a butter substitute that you can sprinkle on.. although it just doesn't melt like butter on the popcorn... I've also heard of people adding hot sauce to it... weird, but I haven't tried it yet..

fryer, you could always drink lemonade or something. i haven't had a soft drink in almost 7 years and i usually go with some kind of fruit based something or other when i'm not feeling the h20. or if i'm feeling ultra sassy i'll have dos xx...but then we get back to the dilemma of drinking things that can have bad effects on our health so forget i even mentioned beer. doh! ============ Quoting from fryer91: Well howdiekat; I don't drink much soda at all. Fully 11% of aspartame is methanol-- 1,120 mg aspartame in 2 L diet soda, almost six 12-oz cans, gives 123 mg methanol (wood alcohol). The methanol is immediately released into the body after drinking-- unlike the large levels of methanol locked up in complex molecules inside many fruits and vegetables. Within hours, the liver turns much of the methanol into formaldehyde, and then much of that into formic acid, both of which in time are partially eliminated as carbon dioxide and water. However, about 30% of the methanol remains in the body as cumulative durable toxic metabolites of formaldehyde and formic acid-- 37 mg daily, a gram every month, accumulating in and affecting every tissue. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aspartameNM/message/1071 research on aspartame (methanol, formaldehyde, formic acid) toxicity: Murray 2004.05.29 rmforall Rich Murray, MA Room For All rmforall@comcast.net 1943 Otowi Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87505 USA 505-501-2298 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aspartameNM/message/927 Donald Rumsfeld, 1977 head of Searle Corp., got aspartame FDA approval: Turner: Murray 2002.12.23 rmforall http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aspartameNM/message/1039 three-page review: aspartame (methanol, formaldehyde) toxicity: Murray 2003.11.22 rmforall http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aspartameNM/message/1026 brief aspartame review: formaldehyde toxicity: Murray 2003.09.11 rmforall http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aspartameNM/message/1025 aspartame & formaldehyde toxicity: Murray 2003.09.09 rmforall |

Guys, I am sorry but you are too good when replyinig to My _unshine64's post.
When I read the post(20 sodas), I thought you guys were going to scream out. Saying "Well you shouldn't drink that much especially without water intake OR 20 sodas seem a bit excessive" is not severe enough. 20 cans or say 15 cans. What the heck. I am not a nutrition specialist nor have any degree on this but I can tell that that much of soda is not excessive, it is unacceptable. If you drink that much of soda(still couln't figure out how one can handle 15-20 cans in one day) you are ruining your body no matter what type of soda it is(diet or not). And thanks asimmer for your post. |

Found this info today... I found it on the net, so it must be true, right (kidding)... but some food for thought...
t WATER 1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. 2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. 3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%. 4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study. 5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. 6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. 7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy or short-term memory loss, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page. 8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. And now for the properties of COKE: 1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident. 2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days. 3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous China. 4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola. 5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion. 6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes. 7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy. 8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. 9. It will also clean road haze from your windshield. For Your Info: 1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis. 2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserv ed for Highly corrosive materials. 3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! Now the question is, would you like a coke or a glass of water? -------------- Tim I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self. - Aristotle You have the power to change a life right in your own hands. - Paul Brandt GO FLAMES TimDay@freetrainers.com |

Lucky for me I got my head on straight, gave up the pop and have also gone on to lose a whole heck of a lot of weight. I have since tried pop again, and I cant stand it. I think it tastes nasty.
