ok, I failed. I started working out, then saw a diffrence and stoped...what was I thinking???? I'm a mother of 3, home alone during school hrs. I have no one "cheering" me on, no one "kicking me off the computer...I know it has to come from with in myself and I shouldn't "depend: on others to keep me going. But I feel all alone here, I have no workout tapes (or the money to get one, wow that's bad) and no friends where I am. Looking at the scale yesterday after my neighbow asked if I was gaining...well, I had gained 12 lbs and felt so depressed the rest of the day, my b/f says bagels are good for me...I thought they were high in carbs,,,guess I was right...now I'm trying to get started again, I start on the 8th and I realy realy realy want to get my body back in shape.Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't like feeling this way :(

hmmmm, you wouldnt have access to a gym would you (dunno if you can afford membership). Anyhow best advice I can give for motivation is just get into a program and challenge yourself to complete it. You keep following the program, sooner or later it will become a part of your life that you "want" to do rather than something you need to do. BTW, perhaps your BF can give you some support and motivation, also you can always come to this site for support.

You have all the motivation in the world right here... just get up and get going... it's easy to stop, but once you see those differences, you need to maintain them....

Also, bagels are good for you, but not the size the come in now... they used to be much smaller than what you can buy today... a bagel occassionally is good for you, but limit them.

Now drop and gimme 20.... kidding... I work out at home too... no tapes, limited gear, but keep at it... I just think when I'm sitting on the couch I could be doing something a little more productive... :dumbbell:

good luck!

Check your local library - I used to rent videos from mine. if they don't have any ask them to get some!

The decision to change your lifestyle has to come from within you. There are so many posts on this site about motivation and diet and everything - find some inspiration and get moving.
Bagels? Oatmeal is cheaper and better for you. Look the recent post in the nutrition section about expensive nutrition - I gave a whole list of cheap, healthy foods - good for your little ones, also.

You can work out at home without any videos - put some music on and dance for 20 minutes, do push-ups, jumping jacks, dips, squats holding phonebooks, the possibilities are endless once you make up your ind.
if you have cable there are workout shows on some of the channels (use to be ESPN, I don't have cable anymore).

There are plenty of people here who will help you with your questions, just ask!

The problem with stopping is that it requires a lot of energy to get started again, but a body in motion stays in motion, so just tell yourself 'five minutes' and i bet you will do 10-20.

Maybe being home alone is depressing? Find a friend to walk with or just head out the door on your own, once walking is easy, add in some little sprints or skipping.
get a cheap jump rope, gosh, cardio can be free! Go to the playground and do pullups on the equipment - swing and pump your legs, everything you do to move and have fun counts!

Ultimatley you have to look in the mirror and tell yourself you are worth the time.

If you are home all day, couldn't you get a part-time job - interacting with others is important and may help get you out of your slump. I found being a stay-at-home mom very isolating, i used to go to the park just to meet other Moms to talk to.

Your post is very 'poor me.' chnge your attitude to "I can do" and your whole life will change.

In a world full of things we can't control, one thing we can and do control is our attitude and our fitness level.
Good luck!!!!

PS consider this a kick in the pants:)

Oh, and you have only failed if you don't get back up.

Oh... along the lines of what asimmer said.... I heard yesterday a lot of it is mindset... it's easy to say "there are so many fast food joints on the way home." It's just as easy to say "there are so many gyms and other fitness outlets on the way home." Granted, not as many as fast food places, but I'll bet there might be one!

It's all in how you set your mind to it!

Get some blank tapes and tape some of the morning aerobics workouts. Replay them as needed. There are about 3-4 that comes on at various times of the morning where I live. I tape them and play them in 'fast-forward' mode to get a 20 minute workout in 5 minutes. Works wonders for me!

Sweetie2day...and what tomorrow?
Listen, what asimmer said is right on. You have to motivate yourself, come here for that motivation. You will see after time, that the motivation will turn into a good habit.
And the bagels??
My family has a bagel factory here in Montreal, and knowing the ingredients, I wouldn't eat one, unless it's a specialty type, or for a cheat meal. Specialty bagels are made from whole wheat flour, flax seed, etc.
We are here to support you.

wow you are negative!!!
I was suffering deppression and cognitive problems so I can give you some skills that are yours to hone and make your own...
Set a time of day for looking at your worries, one hour and then imagine putting them in envelopes and fileing them.
relax by 'the bath will do' close your eyes and repeat any word for ten minutes- 'water',, repeat it in your head or out loud- everytime fat or bank statements comes in your mind just go back 'water, water, water...' in five minutes you will have put half your worries on the back burner..
Run, jog, gym- get your heart rate so high that you can't help but smile. It burns calories too.. I mean high beats per minute- push (see doctor if necessary)
Write 50 things you like about you, physically, mentally etc..(you'll probably get to 6, but add one every other day-you can do it.
Make notes and stick 'em in your pocket for a day. New one every day like a thought of the day... '' I like my fit lifestyle', 'I love brocoli', 'Everday I'm getting fitter'. It's not stupid it gives you motivation!!!
Write all your statistics to measure again in 3 months time.
Keep a daily food and exercise diary.
Write down aims, goals, things to achieve- realistic ones mind. 'to lose 3 pounds a fortnight', 'to run 3 miles within a 6 week training period', 'save $20 a week and book a holiday in 4 months time', 'save $30 and book a holiday and join a gym in seven months time'. - have a goal, many goals, make a goal and achieve it.
You may read this and think it's a beginning to nothing as it's all rubbish.. OK then stay there... fat, with no friends near, putting on weight, not fit, pretend a dieting, thinking negative!

Go on, get some paper, make notes, aims, goals and motivational tips for the improved you.
You are capable of changing your life and perceptions of it.
