Well I can tell it's January! I just returned back to the gym after taking about twelve days off for the holiday vacation. Monday was my first day back and my normal hour and fifteen minute workout took me two hours!

The annual new years resolution crowd is back! I basically had to wait for every piece of equipment. Based on past experience this rush should slow down once the new year resolution phase wears off. For now I will just have to deal with it or find a larger gym.

Just thought I would vent a bit. Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

I use to have the same problem my town only has 1 gym. It is real small and was always packed it was insane. I just said F it and went out and bought me a bench w/ all the goodies on it. Got sick and tired of paying the monthly fee and not getting the full workout I should have been.

Now everyone, give them the benefit of the doubt. How many of you decided to get back in shape because of a new years resolution. And now look at you acheiving your goals.

Actually I'm a little surprised...... This year it's taking a little longer for people to get going than normal.
Of course I already had new members in my gym but not as many as I expected and not all the old ones are back yet.
Come to France! (o;

We are not really slamming people that are trying, just that every year our beloved spaces of fitness become home for 2-3 weeks to a huge crowd. that is all

It's not really slamming people. I just think that most have seen this phenomenon many times before. Most of those on this board would be the first to offer help and advice to anyone who is trying to get in shape and improve their fitness. At least that is my opinion.

I think most people do wish them the best in their goals, but I can relate to the annoyance of having to compromise your own routine because of a surge of new members that generally disappear a few weeks into the year.

On the flipside, because of the crowded gym I've been doing different exercises that I normally don't do and have felt that soreness that's evaded me for a few weeks all over again! So I might owe the crowds some thanks afterall!

Yeah, I understand the complaints also. One interesting note though is the one who started this whole thread is one who started in January...Correct me if I'm wrong.

To all of you just starting your program, I wish you the best of luck. Just remember, if you can make it past, the 4 week mark, it becomes habit and you will start to crave the workouts. (This is my plan anyway, now that I'm just starting out again after years off.) =)

The gym I go to is a lot more crowded, but I expected it. I am glad to see people trying, but I honestly think that maybe 60% of them will be gone in the first month and another 20% of them the following. But for those that stick to it: Good job!

One thing I have noticed though, the bench/free weight area hasn't gotten any busier, just the cardio area.

Hey temort what's your point all I said was to give those guys a break and that probably several of you decided to back in shape because of a New Years Resolution and there's nothing wrong with that. And by the way the reason I decided to start back in January is because I just got back from Iraq, where were you!!

usarmyb,
Not one single comment was directed at you. I'm sorry you viewed it that way.

I appreciate your efforts in Iraq, as we all do.

Regardless, my bad for jumping into this thread.

I have a weight room upstairs in my house. I have had to run 3 strangers out of it in the last 4 days. Is this gonna happen every new year??????

lol @ charlie. I bet your wife gets her cardio from laughing at your sense of humour!

As far as busy gyms, I agree, it can be a little annoying in the fact that newbies don't always follow the basic gym rules, eg: resting on equipment between sets, stuff like that, but I must admit, I prefer a busy gym to an empty one - something about all that energy, people working out that helps me in my motivation. :)

usarmyb there is no need for that kind of post man! besides that comment about iraq is kind of uncalled for. Now I am not saying anything bad or negative. I have a lot of friends and people I know that either have someone there or know loved ones there. I am so thankful you and others are there for us, but to use it like you did is kind of uncalled for. Lets try to keep it civil guys and gals LOL we all are here for the same thing!
