I have found only one that I really like. It is the Zone Perfect bar, which you can buy at any discount store. They are made with soy protein vs. whey protein. I don't know if that makes a difference in the taste. Also, 210 cals., 7 gms fat (a little high), 16-20carbs, and 15gms protein. Try them, they come in a lot of good chocolatey flavors. |

mikey, try rephrasing your question to "what type of protein bar would I benefit most from?" If there was a "best" protein bar, all other bars would be history. Sorry, I just had to say that, I've been seeing too many "best" questions out there lately.-------------- MOO! |

I would have to agree with ageis.
Most of them are loaded with sugars...I only have one about once a week, detour is good, uturns are good also. But again sugar shacks! -------------- We must become the change we want to see. Ivan Montreal Canada |

I like Powerbar Protein Plus bars. They've got 24 grams of protein. Zone Perfect and Kashi bars are also some of the better tasting ones.

Another really good one is the new Detour bars. I think they have 32g of protein, but they are high in calories too. They taste like a snickers bar.-------------- Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will. |

What about Worldwide Sport Nutrition's PURE PROTEIN bars? Would they be considered good?
They have 19g Protein, 22g carbs--with 17g being non impact. What does this mean??? Also, 2g sugars. |

If you are not on a diet of any kind, the Steel Bars are also very good and tasty. High in sugar, but excellent taste.-------------- The one goal you will NEVER achieve is the one you never attempt. |

Right now I'm using protein powder once a day, but I have found that my stomach doesn't like that at all. I tend to get a "tummy ache" and feel extremely full for a coupleof hours every time I have the powder. I have a breakfast, the powder at midmorning, a good lunch, a midafternoon snack, a dinner, and an evening snack. If I put the powder in the afternoon when I have my high protein meals, it makes me pretty sick to my stomach and causes a bit of pain in my stomach. I have tried mixing it with both water and skim milk. I've tried adding strawberries to it as well.
Is it possible to be protein intolerant like some people are lactose intolerant? Maybe the protein bars would work better? If so, what brand of protein bars would work for someone on a diet to lose weight? I don't really care if they taste good. :) I've adopted the attitude that I'm eating because it is good for me, not because I like it. -------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com |

It could be the type of protein you are using or brand. Cheaper made proteins tend to give people problems with digestion, bloating and stomach aches. What are you using now?

gwindalyn,
I had that problem when I first started drinking protein shakes. I had no idea there were 2 different kinds, soy & whey. Anyway, I had bought the soy & everytime I tried to drink it, I felt like I would hurl. I gave up for a few days until I found the whey kind. These I can drink without feeling sick. Maybe we all just have our own personal sensitivities :) |

This is Whey(was told whey was better for you than soy). It is Optimum Nutrition whey protein. I had the exact same brand in strawberry and didn't seem to have problems. When it was gone, I tried Chocolate, and that is when I had the tummy aches. Could it be something different in the flavor?-------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com |

Just as a side note to this:
There have been a growing number of reports regarding upset stomachs in conjunction with the use of of Sucralose. Though there has been no direct tie-in yet (as with headaches and Aspartame), some initial research is currently underway. I cannot stand Aspartame! It gives me the worst headaches. Which is why I stay away from diet pop & I use saccharin in my coffee in the morning. I seem to do fine on saccharin. There's some new stuff out now too, called Splenda, supposed to be made from real sugar & tastes like sugar, but no calories. My hubby said it was super expensive, though.

I know what Aspartame, Nutrasweet, and Saccharine are. I have used Splenda..it doesn't have that aweful diet aftertaste to it, but it is expensive.

I've had the upset tummy with chocolate whey protein with either optimum nutrition and sci-fit. I prefer vanilla.
I think it might be the flavor because in chocolate it tastes too much like powder milk if you ask me. |

I use optimum 100% natural whey protien. I just went through a 2lb tub of strawberry... working on a 5lb tub of chocolate and I have a 5lb tub of vanilla at home. When I first started to take protien (one shake a day) it seemed to make my stomach feel kinda weird but after a few weeks that evened out and i'm fine now (taking two a day). As far as protien bars I usually stay away from them unless i'm out all day and I don't want to stop and eat fast food. I usually go with I think the EAS protien bars. Cookies and Cream seems to taste pretty good and they usually have a decent amount of protien per bar. Not too dry either like some other protien bar I had before (I forgot what its called)...

How about these new "low carb" protein bars that are out now? Has anyone tried them? Are they full of sugar too?

Splenda is expensive but well worth it IMO! Right now I use something even more expensive, Stevia. It has a "different" kind of taste to it but once you get used to it, it's great! It's also au nautral from a root which I like better than the processed stuff. It to also has no calories and doesn't spike your blood sugar. Splenda on the other hand spikes my blood sugar, although it says it's not supposed to......

After someone suggested using Splenda, I bought what is equivalent to a five pound bag of sugar for approx. $6.00 -the great difference is that it will take me forever to use it as even though it says one teaspoon = one teaspoon sugar, I can't even come close to that much as it is so much sweeter. So, it is more bang for the buck! I would like to try baking with it, if anyone has any suggestions or has tried it, please let me know as it would be more expensive using it for baking.
