I just bought an MP3 player because the music at my gym sucks. No offense to Sarah McLachlan (in fact, I've seen her in concert), but "Adia" is not a good workout song.

So, what tunes get you pumped up for a good workout? I'm taking recommendations. I like all kinds of music, including -- rock, pop, hip-hop, latin, electronica, house, oldies, axé, et al.

I've found that I really like listening to dance and hip-hop during cardio because it keeps me moving.

While doing weights, I like older rock like Van Halen and Guns n Roses.

What about you?

I feel your pain...everytime I go to the gym. They play motivational crap that 30 something soccer moms might like, but to me is as offensive as Marilyn Manson on the 700 club. Matchbox 20 and Justin Timberlake don't get me pumped. I like listening to old Metallica, some Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Megadeth, GNR, etc..

I put in a jane Fonda tape and use Barbara Striesand for background music. That combo pisses me off enough to really hurt myself during the workout.

I have to agree Rocky definatly takes the win especially the soundtrack, also like you guys said any rap or hip hop songs are good as long as they have a steady beat so you can pace yourself to the beat.

Hey Leedog, I take offence to the 30 something soccer moms liking the crap they play at the gym*lol*, although I guess I'm actually a 40 something soccer mom, so maybe that's the difference. My preference is The Who, The Doors, Clapton, Zepplin, lot's of other late 60's early 70's stuff and any good recent rock music. Lately I've gotten my 14yo daughter to download good tunes off the internet and now have some excellent mixes for my MP3-fortunetly she has good taste in music. When you work out enough, it's amazing how quickly you get tired of the same tunes though...may have to invest in a 6gig IPOD soon, mines only 256MB.

Yo Fly, don't let these young pups give you any crap. You are one hot soccer mom as far as I'm concerned.

This is what's cool about my gym...if you go at night after 11:00pm, it's all classic rock. The graveyard guy, Ken, has the stations programmed according to what he feels the people want at the time. So during the day hours, they have a lot of MTV stuff, at night they have a mix between old and new, and late night they have classic rock. I usually come in at around 10:30pm, and by the time I get changed and warm up a little bit, the classic rock is playing when I get to the weights.

Fly, if that's your taste in music than I definately wasn't referring to you in my above post. That's the same stuff I listen to. :)

If your doing cardio I gotta go with happy hardcore techno. Especially Happy 2B hardcore chapters 1-8 and DJ Hixxy Bonkers 11. They really pump me up and make me push myself farther than I ever could without them. Hope you give them a try! :)
