I don't know if this was posted before because there is no search button here. I was browsing the internet and I read this guy's program. He said that light weight but lots of reps is better and will get you bigger. Like say 3 sets of 25 reps wil get you bigger ( weights that you can really lift) He said that prisoners are one of the biggest, buffest people around and they don't eat much but they're big. On the other hand, a lot of people will say that to get big, do less reps with heavy weights. Who's right?? This is confusing. I don't know who to follow.

cbas1 - good answer, not to nitpick - but it is so much more impressive when you spellcheck....
I am currently doing a specific bodybuilder program, my reps and weights vary depending on the workout. This is supposed to cross-train and build muscle. I will let you know in 8 weks if I have made significant gains or not.
I must say though, I got the best results in the past with heavy weights and low reps....

Rep ranges of 3-5 with heavy weight cause mainly Myofibril and Sarcomere Hypertrophy and very little Sarcoplasmic Hypertrophy. (Sarcomere hypertrophy increases contractile proteins in muscle and this increases strength directly along with size). Growth here will be mostly myofibril/ sarcomere hypertrophy(good thing) and will also result in increased strength gains in other rep ranges and improvements in neural efficiency. Therefore this is perhaps the best rep range for increasing strength.
Capillary density increases with little Sarcoplasmic growth with rep ranges above 15. Muscular endurance is more the factor with this rep range. Not that this is not needed, but probably not what you are wanting. A combination of them can be excellent for overall growth, especially if you believe in targeting muscle fibers.
