Several of us fight depression or the blues more frequently then we know or want to admit. I would like to know, what cheers each of you up when you are in this mode or what you would like the one you love to do for you when you are feeling this way?
Since my health issues and other things going on, I had to fight feeling terrible on a daily basis, and to tell you the truth, it is hard getting out of that mode. The thing that made me get of out that slump was just going for a little walk (which is all i could do at the time) and now i have noticed that my spirits have lifted since i started working out a little again. (did yoga my first time this week). What are your remedies??? -------------- Bettia.... The secret of getting ahead is getting started. |

First and formost are my wife and son. Second is listening to BB King, and other blues music. Third is watching action flicks and ohter fav movies. fourth is lifting weights. Not cardio or anything just plain ole lifting something heavy. I have a 4 foot high stump of a tree in my front yard. When I get very depressed I go out and try to rip it out. Lately it has become rather loose and I fear it soon may indeed get ripped out. LOL those are just a few of my tactics.-------------- Eat More, Drink More, and Lift Harder than you thought you could, welcome to Becoming! |

Laughter. Watching the movie 'BIG' with Tom Hanks always gives me a lift. Flowers and cards from my hubby, or other loved ones. Getting away. Little 'mini vacations' always make me feel refreshed and renewed. And, of all things, Christmas music! Weird, huh?-------------- ~Victoria~ ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

Getting my hair cut, or a pedicure. Or even a cheap facil mask from Walgreens, done while soaking in a bubble bath, reading something trashy like the Weekly World News ( you can't help but giggle at 'Saddam's weapons of mass destruction found - killer dinosaurs!').
Or something physical like lifting, yoga... especially if my daughter ot husband joins me in the activity.. walking the dog, seeing him all smiley and tired out afterwards. Gosh, I guess I ramble on...... |

Anchoring our boat for the night on a cool spring or fall night after a hectic week does it for me. Theres nothin like falling to sleep rocking gently on the hook with a garbage can pizza and an Arnold or Steven Segal movie. Even A chick flick is ok sometimes if the admiral so wishes.

I read some spiritual books to remind me of why I'm here in teh first place. To learn, to grow, and to try and help others. That makes me feel like I have a purpose so the sad or desperate feelings tend to slide away.

Lots of things. Nice weather, exercise. I find that my yogalites class is very relaxing and uplifting. That was a nice surprise, REading my bible, playing a board game with my kids, a nice walk.

That's such a good question; I have really been struggling lately w/ my joint problems and usually the best thing I can do to improve my mood is work out. I've been so limited in what I can do, though, that lately I've had to get creative. Luckily the weather has been beautiful, which always energizes me - so I dug my bike out from under a mountain of used auto parts, put some new tires on it and I've been trying to ride some. A new activity is always fun and biking is easier on my shoulders than lifting, and easier on my knees than running - so right now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will work for me w/out aggravating my sore spots too much.
If not, there's always... needlepoint. ROFL |

I think just knowing that it won't last forever is forefront in my mind. I also find that sleep tends to help too and that in itself is probably a big contributor to me feeling this way to begin with.

MOVE A MUSCLE, CHANGE A THOUGHT! I FORCE MYSELF TO GET UP AND MOVING, AND SOONER OR LATER FORGET THE MOOD I WAS PREVIOUSLY IN. BELIEVE ME, IT USUALLY WORKS.
