I have done accupunture, where they put these little things that look like bandages in your ear and of course they give you a very strict diet that you must follow. I first did it for 4 months and lost 20lbs. I am now doing it again and hopefully will reach my goal size of 120 lbs.

Like if you do it incorrectly, your body fat jumping off the charts. My mom's bf% went from 39% to 46% in the course of the 7 months she was doing atkins because she wasn't doing it properly.

My point is do not make a point if you do not have evidence to back it up. Atkins gets a bad wrap because people do not take the time to read about it thoroughly. A bodybuilderes diet is basically the atkins diet.

That's a fact. if one bothers to read the whole Atkins book they will find that adding clean carbs is necessary after the induction period. The book also suggests additional carbs if weight training is involved.

My dad was on Atkins and lost 60 pounds and he used to be tired and shakey all the time, and after he went on Atkins it stopped, but when he went off he got the tiredness and shakiness again. For two weeks its just eliminating carbs, after two weeks you add on HEALTHY carbs. You just have to know how to go on Atkins right.....

exactly. In my mom's case, she stayed on the induction period (like 20 carbs a day) for the entire 7 months, because she didn't lose anything in the first 2 weeks. She also took it as her "ok" to eat fatty foods, like as much heavy cream, sasauge, bacon, ice cream, and pretty much all the things we know are bad for us on that side of the spectrum.

he was talking to me.
i did know the facts, i was just joking about, i know you think im a stupid kid, but i do read up on stuff, and the fact that this was headline news about 6 months ago, its not suprising that i knew.
as well as the problems with body fats, it has been known to affect blood pressure, energy levels and causes constipation, or diarhea depending on how you adjust. if there was a smile that was sticking its tongue out, then i would be using it now.
also, it goes to show how good the diet is by the fact that dr. atkins was obese when they died.

Try figuring out your caloric needs. 12 calo per pound and do not go lower. Take in good carbs, good fats, and do not forget the most important of all, protein. Try and stay away from the attractive processed foods and fast food.
Hope this helps.

The fact of the matter is everything does not work for everybody. I wouldnt sit on here and bash a lifestyle because I "heard" that it caused this or that. You burried your own argument when you bashed the founder of atkins without really knowing the facts.

Please do not give adivse or make statements that are not true - this only leads to confusion. Atkins does work, but in the long run it is doing damage to some internal organs (liver and kidneys)

Hey Fairygirl and Raphael, have you guys ever thought of the "South Beach Diet"? I know alot of people, including myself, that have lost and kept numerous pounds off with it! The only problem is that you have to make sure you don't go to low carb if you're a teen because, in my case, it affected my ability to think. :(

Atkins works and it works well with very low risks actually. the only problem with atkins is if you are going to do it, you have to make a lifetime commitment to stay on a "lower carb" diet for the rest of your life. it's a misconception that people have....ok i can do this lose the weight and then go back to the way i ate before. it doesn't work like that. read the book. read about south beach too. i have chosen atkins because in the end it is the easier one for me. i did it a few years ago, lost all the weight i needed to and kept it off. then i started to "cheat" here and there. well a year after i started "cheating" i have gained most of it back. It really is a lifestyle change...not a diet.

A lot of people have really great results on the South Beach Diet, Atkins, etc...every body is different so i believe it's important to find what works for you. I wanted to lose 45 pounds and have done it by just adding in fruits, veggies, lean meats, etc and cutting the junk out of my diet...it's just important to stay healthy, IMO.

The Atkins diet may be similar to a bodybuilders diet in the last few weeks, but from what all I've heard and what I remember from BB1fit and others it's only for a certain amount of weeks... and they take all kinds of supplements while they do it. It's in some thread in here I'll look for it. I'm not bashing the Atkins either, though I do not think it is ideal, but that's only my opinion. I like to think that you can go on diets through certain periods and you'll have great results, but I think the most important things the average person can do are permanent lifestyle health changes because the simple decisions you make every day are so important.

I would recommend Weight Watchers. It's much easier to stick to than Atkins and you can eat a little bit of anything you want. I've lost about 60 pounds on it and my husband has lost close to 70! It was a miracle because before Weight Watchers, he was on a strickly Burger King/McDonalds diet. It's still amusing to watch him order a grilled salmon with vegetables at a restaurant! You can go to the meetings, but if you already have a support group, you can do it online. Good Luck!

I am trying to loose some weight before my family goes on a big trip with everyone and I want to suprise them.

How can I do that?
2006/06/28, 08:29 AM
Eat better.....first and formost....the people in last 2 posts probably have a hard time with this....check out or not to eat....avoid the obvious junk foods(sodas, juices, chips, fried foods, chocolate/candy, ice cream, etc...u get the idea)....eat small meals many times a day....Nutrition is where u'll lose the most weight...

Get more Active.....walk everyday...jog/run if u can....try to cover more distance little by little or same distance in less time....play sports......you should try to get 1 hour of physical activity daily...this with a help of a good diet will help you lose more weight

Finally and as important....start lifting weights....do big whole body exercises.....squats, deadlifts, pull ups, military presses, bench presses, etc.....start light and lift progressively heavier...

USE search function at the bottom of the page to search for further questions that u have in previous posts

a diet is something you eventually stop doing :p starting a new healthy eating lifestyle will last forever...you need balanced meals(i.e fruits, veggies, starches, etc.) check the stickies at the top of the diet and nutrition discussion board...there is some great info there..

patience and strength to you :)

Just glancing at his weight loss info - a 500 calorie deifcit coming from your diet is probably too much for most people, you could maybe do a 300 cal deficit with exercise and a 200 calorie deficit from calories and not go into starvation mode, but 500 from diet alone is going to cause some resistance to fat loss, IMO.

Give up. You already have with that attitude, you might as well accept it.

I love when people use school as an excuse to not be able to eat properly. Or better yet, "i don't have time for breakfast". So get out of bed 10 minutes earlier.
