Stopped smoking

I posted this in Nerraw's "kicked butt" topic but just in case some folks weren't reading the topic thought I'd post it separately. We smokers need all the help we can get.

Well , here's the deal. We did go to the hypnotist. Victoria, I guess it is a form of hypnotherapy except we didn't go into my childhood . As Warren said, one of the problems with smoking cessation is the propensity to want to murder violently, cry profusely and inflict mayhem on everybody and his dog. Elaine and I wanted to avoid that.

Having quit before we both remembered the first three days were the most unstable. We are both in the 2nd day and the worst has yet to happen. Last night after our workouts and dinner we sat in the living room looking at tv, our books and each other. Instead of sharpening our weapons arsenal and preparing for battle, we alternated falling asleep through the 3 hours of prime time that the National Broadcasting Company had arranged for us personally. Then we both got up and went to sleep in the bed like sane adults.

I guess that the sudden absense of nicotine caused the narcolepsy. The hypnotist did use touchy feely words like "well being" in her post hypnotic suggestions which always creeps me out but overall, the session seems to have worked. We have had no cravings, fights, blood, broken bones, flying telephones, wailing or gnashing of teeth.

I was somewhat skeptical about hypnosis and I had the therapist help me cook up a scheme for a little side test. A few months ago I added chinups into my workout routine. Me and my lil brother fryer and paulenelagassey were lamenting that we couldn't do them. Well I have worked hard for 10 weeks to become chinworthy. I've added 1 chin every other week and I now do 4 sets of 5 unassisted chins in my workout.

For sheets and geegles I had her give me a post hypnotic suggestion that I be able to do 10 chins. She told me some mumbo jumbo about believing for 17 seconds that I could do it then I would. Well, I must have only believed for 16 seconds 'cause I only made 9 chins. Our little experiment wasn't a total success but I did jump from a 5 rep max to 9 reps in 1 sitting. Pretty cool huh?

You need to rephrase the second sentance in your opening salvo to:
We EX smokers need all the help we can get.

Mindset they say.

Once again good for you Charlie

Charlie, Hypnotism is proof that there is a subconscious level to the mind. Its a tricky concept really. It depends on your willingness to do what the post-hypnotic suggests. In no way is hypnotism used for mind control but rather to retrain your thought patterns when confronted with a specific issue, in your case smoking is the issue. As far as the chin-up thing goes, when body and mind work together, there is so much more you can accomplish physically, BUT sometimes it may be unrealistic goals that your mind is setting that your body says "what the F man?" Hypnosis is not for everyone but if it is effective for you, then more power to you. Even though you didn't do the desired amount of chin-ups you wanted, I'll bet the house that because you are thinking in such a positive way your body is pushing a little harder to accomplish its goals. Don't get discouraged if the hypnosis doesn't work every time, at least you recognize the power of the connection between the mind and body...pretty cool stuff. And no, I do not do hypnotherapy but my buddy i went to school with is one. Next time i see him, I'll make him hypnotize me to make my muscles bigger by eating more crap.

Thanks all. I do believe in the power of suggestion. The chin up thing I can only follow up once a week but the sets were 9,7,6,5.

Delts, if hypnotism is proof that there is a subconscious level to the mind, then it follows that I must have one????.....mind that is. YES!!!!! Halelujah. Can I get an AMEN brothers and sisters????

Day 3 no blood, no hits, no murders. OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMM.
This was definitly money well spent.

It's not what we eat or drink occasionally, but what we consume on a daily basis that determines our ongoing level o health.

Shavonde, I'll let you know next week. They are recorded in my exercise journal if you want to look. I only do them once a week. It was doubly cool to me because I had worked up to 4 sets of 5. I jumped to sets of 9,7,6,5 and that was amazing. You won't be able to do things you can't normally do but that added push is really somthing.

Jim, ask my wife, normally I'm a step or 2 up from being a lip diddler!!
