I have been weight training on and off for several years. I had been spinning my wheels until I found this site, however. I have upped my weight amount and now I am pushing myself to failure. Now that I am working extra hard, I am ssssooooooooo hungery all the time, especially after my workouts. Help me please!! I am eating well balanced meals and I am trying to eat often..but I am still starved. What is going on with me??? Any advice will be greatly appreciated....

Without your profile showing your workout and diet plans, it's hard to say.

What do your meals consist of each day? What do you currently weigh and what is your goal? What is your work out routine?

What is your carb intake like? If you have read these boards, I assume you are probably getting adequate protein intake, at least 1 gr. per lb. of bodyweight, but protein is not satisfying for very long periods of time, and carbs are needed, especially going heavy for mass. Brown rice, sweetpotatoes, pasta, vegetables, beans, etc. Just a guess, as I don't know your diet.

well....I usually dont like to tell my weight..but I am 5'10 and I am currently at 191. I have some bf which is my goal to loose. I think I am still lacking a lil protein. I think I am afraid to eat alot of it because I dont want to bulk up. Will it make me do that? I eat beans for lunch about 3 to 4 working days and the others I try to eat tuna or salmon with salad or I go for it on whole wheat bread. For dinners I am eating brown rice, veggies and a lean meat of some type. I have not added supplements, because they scare me...I dont want to gain weight more than I have, I want to loose in order to shed the fat stores on my body. I don't know that I have made sense. If you need more info..I will provide it.

a couple more things.. I eat alot of low fat or fat free yogurts and cottage cheese. I eat apples and other fruits as snacks as well. I eat oatmeal or some sort of oat cereal for breakfast. I guess I really need to do that math..lol. I really want someone to tell me how safe and effective protein supplements are. I am prone to have diabetes and I have high blood pressure. Thanks for all the info that has already been shared.

As long as you drink adequate amounts of water, protein supplements are safe.
if they were as dangerous as some Drs want you to think there would be an epidemic of bodybuilders with kidney stones and failing kidneys, tis has not happened.
The RDA for protein is based on sedentary people - couch potatoes - and is an average. How do you get an average? You take the highest number, and the lowest number, add them together and divide by two. Not too accurate for most of the population.
Eat more protein, cut out some of those lowfat (usually high sugar) dairy products and stick with oatmeal, instead of processed cereals.
If it isn't in your genetics, you will not bulk up. Most women mistakenly think they are bulking up because they are shaping up their muscles but not losing bodyfat - hence they feel they are getting bigger when really if they stick with the program and shed the bodyfat, they would find they have sexy, 'feminine' muscles underneath it all.
Oh, and what is wrong with bulking up? LOL!

LOL...nothing wrong with bulking up. I want people to see the muscles...lol..just don't wanna look like the hulk...lol. I think you are quite attractive....lol...not that I am lookin at ya that way tho. I was on the net in my spare office time..lol..which I dont often have and I did some reading on that soy protein. Is that as good as Whey? I feel really stupid when it comes to all of this, because I am so new to it. Even though I have lost alot of weight at different points in my life, I have always had a certain amount of body fat that hung around. I am sooo ready to shed it. I am tired of seeing that last bit on my thighs, arms and lower abdomin. I know my arms are a tiny smaller, even though they look bigger...if that makes sense. You know what I think most women are thinking?? They want instant results, when it takes sometime to see real actual benefits and results. My hubby says that he can see where I am loosing fat..and I do too...just worried that my skin may not catch up...lol. If you could let me know on which is the best protein it would be helpful.

If you are prone to being diabetic then protein is essential to help keep your blood sugar levels more level. Choose carbs and foods on the low side of the glycemic index these will also tend to be fibrous and filling. Good luck and don't worry about bulking up. Remember increased muscle = increased metabolism = increased fat loss.

Thanks Lonegirl. I have read that protein actually helps promote healthy kidneys that is if you are using soy. My mother was diabetic and had kidney failure, before she died in 97. I am really was nervous about protein but now I am not. I am headed to tanning at lunch and then to buy some protein powder(SOY). Thanks again to you all for your help.

Join the club.
The secret here is to make sure you eat lots of the "good" carbos. Your body needs and is craving the energy foods.

also cardio is the key... make sure you run at least 20-25 minutes after you work out. if this is too hard try fast walking. 3.5-4 ml/hour. I am not an expert but this helped me lose a lot of fat... also don't weigh yourself. measure your legs, waist, stomach area and take a note. you will see them you are getting slimmer. whereas you might be going up on the weight side of things. muscle takes a lot less space when you look pound for pound between muscle and fat...

good luck. I started seeing results after 9 weeks. put yourself on schedule, avoid junk food, run/walk after your workout you will notice the differences in 8-10 weeks of time.
