Hey,
I am going under tomorrow morning, a little nervous. I am kind of bummed out because I have been on a really good roll at the gym, lifting feels so good and I am feeling leaner/bigger. How long will I be out of commission? I will ask the doctor tomorrow, but I was wondering if any one else has had their sinuses operated on and how hard the recovery was? -------------- "To be able to go to the gym and train hard is a joy and a privelege, even though the hard work necessitates driving yourself through considerable discomfort. Sorry to hear about it. I'll be thinking about you. Is it outpatient? My wife had sinus surgery about 12 years ago. Outpatient. I think it took her about three weeks to get back to 100%. You have to think that they have perfected the technique a little since then. Also, you have alot going for you- healthwise. I believe that will help speed your recovery. Take advantage of the time off and make sure to follow the doc's advice. Good Luck.

Yes I had sinus surgury...pretty intrusive, for sleep apnea. Its more uncomfortable then painful. You can't workout for a while because the physical stress gives you sinus pain. I was out for about 10 days, then I was fine when I came back. The soreness takes a while to go away but it doesn't interfere with your workouts after a week or so of recovery. Hey, get the rest, you deserve it. Good luck and don't worry.
ps...what is the procedure for? also, you doctor may say that you need to stay out of the gym for a couple of weeks, go by how you feel. -------------- May the lift be with you. |

Good luck Amy. Sorry you have to go through this, but it sounds like just a minor setback. Take advantage of the rest time, we so rarely feel justified in it. I will keep you in my prayers, for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.-------------- ~Victoria~ ...Do not be discouraged; everyone who got where he is, started where he was.--anon ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

I'm sure you'll heal quickly; sugery is never any fun but, once you heal your sinus problem won't be a problem any more, right? Good luck....be thinking of you tomorrow:)

jdelts I got a qustion for you. Do you have to use a Cpap? I do they told me the surgery would not even help. They say my tongue is to big and my neck is to thick. Thanks , everyone!
I am up and about today. My head hurts, but not as much as I had feared. The doctor said in 5 days I can start walking for cardio, swimming okay in a week, lighter lifting and non-contact boxing okay in two weeks (or was it one, I have to look, I wrote it all down) and heavy lifting should be okay in 2-3 weeks. YEAH! The procedure I had done was endoscopic removal of sinus polyps, which were blocking my sinuses completely. I had full anesthesia, so I can't really give you a run-down on the whole procedure, but I feel much better than I thought I would. I have a long weekend and then I will start training clients again on Tuesday, I am going to attempt an easy bike ride or fast walk on Tuesday, also. Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! I look forward to being able to train better and harder once I am recovered because I can breath again!!! -------------- "To be able to go to the gym and train hard is a joy and a privelege, even though the hard work necessitates driving yourself through considerable discomfort. I have been forced to rest. I have been so dizzy I don't trust myself to drive. It sucks, but I don't want to kvetch and moan, just stir crazy and frustrated.

Well, the dog is safe for now.. i went and got myself a cut and color to break up the monotony.
And I shoveled snow, it is sad how tired it made me, but oh well. I am training clients again, and that is tiring too. Ugh. Doctor appt on Thursday, then maybe the okay to lift :) :) -------------- "To be able to go to the gym and train hard is a joy and a privelege, even though the hard work necessitates driving yourself through considerable discomfort. I have had 3 sinus surgeries and the first time it took about one week to fully recover; however, if swimming is part of your routine, be VERY careful. Holding your breath under even one foot of water can make you feel dizzy because of the pressure. Anyways, sounds like you're up and about already, and if you have any more questions about sinus stuff...I'm practically an expert.

Thanks, Smashley!
I was dizzy for two weeks! (some may say that is a natural state for me..) But I seem to be on the mend, of course, as soon as I felt I might be ready to lift, I got food poisoning or the flu (not sure, but it was unpleasant, either way). 3 hours of shoveling yesterday, wow, that is a workout! Going to lift tomorrow!!!!!! Cardio today!!! -------------- "To be able to go to the gym and train hard is a joy and a privelege, even though the hard work necessitates driving yourself through considerable discomfort. I had my steptum fixed about 5 years ago. I borke my nose to many times and I was having problems breathing. Let me tell everyone this. Nothing in my whole life hurt that bad. I was out for 3 or 4 days in a row, then out of work for over a week. Plus they had to take the splints out, add I cried from the pain. I breath better but I got to say i don't know if I would do it again, it hurt that bad.Asimmer I know how you feel. I understand get polyps removed is worse than that. I had a couple taken care of but minor, they didn't have to pack my nose. I hope you are feeling better.

Thanks again, everybody!
I am back to lifting (lighter than I would like, but you know, can't push too much, too soon) and have been eating clean and doing cardio! My energy levels almost qualify as scary again, though every third day or so I have a little low period and go to bed early. I am so happy to be able to breath through my nose again!!!
