At my school, there was a vegan guest speaker that said milk has a relatively high percentage of mucus and puss (any percentage of that is high to me). I'm off milk now, and have replaced it with soy milk. But, I don't know if that will harm my bulking up process, do to soy protein being described as "counter roductive," i believe due to it containing estrogen. Is this true? Is there any way to increase one's testosterone?
Also, is it true that people are lucky to gain 10 pounds of uscle in a year? That would suck.
What about people in the military? They seem to bulk up quickly, plus they rarely give their body any rest. how is that?

I would be a little leary of that statement aboutmilk. It is pastureized before it is sold. I have drank it for 33 years with no adverse side effects...I think the vegan was saying that sue to their stand about eating or drinking any thing from animals. As for the army they eat a lot and not many build that much muscle. As for the 10lbs in a year I do that almost each year why do you say that that would suck?

Not drinking milk will not hurt your gains. I personally rarely ever drink milk, there are so many other sources of protein that are quality. A bit of soy I don't believe will hurt you either. Iwouldn't drink as much of it as i did regular milk though. Soybeans contain compounds called isoflavones (natural estrogens), which have many health benefits, such as help with prostate cancer. And soy added to whey during the day will slow down absorbtion. You see it in many MRP's.

Mutt- I only say it would suck cuz i was hoping to put on about 15 pounds of muscle in the next 3-6 months. I'm not a beginner, and won't see super quick gains, so this is a little disheartening. Also, in the military, if they eat a lot but don't build a lot of muscle, what's the point of the routines? Just to make them stronger?
BB1- I add some soy milk to my whey shake sometimes. If it slows down absorption, is that a good thing? What is a MRP?

The only side effect of milk that I noticed was that I cause my acne to flare up. I used to drink about 64 oz of milk a day but now that I have cut it to 24 oz my acne has subsided greatly. I do miss being able to get all the extra protein so easily. I could just grab the jug and get a quick 16 grams instead of taking the 10 minutes to cook a chicken breast. But anything to clear up my face.

Yes, any time but immediately post workout. Pure whey taken alone digests way too quickly.

Most of the estrogen in soy products is lost during the pasteurization process, so don't worry about it having a negative effect.
