ask yourself why you excercise and eat right? Think of 12 reasons why you do it. Do you think you'll stick with it for a year? 2, 3, 5? Lemme know. |

I don't need 12 reasons to continue working out. I only have 2: Better health and better self-image. I KNOW I'll stick with working out because I know the results I want won't come without a ton of hard work. My motivation comes from within. |

I agree with jbennett, it comes from within. It's been proven that it takes 21 days of constant effort to form a habit, but after that it's almost second nature. Exercise and eating right becomes a lifestyle or as some say a part of your lifestyle. |

First off, why do you say 1/2 will stop liftin, did you stop or something? Everyone has their own reasons I'm sure and some slip way out of spectrum and go that far to either side of the norm but who cares. It's good for people to have something of their own. Lifting, aerobics, martial arts, running, etc., these are all individual activities with individual results that one can feel great about. Personally, I have been lifting for about 4 or 5 years, but have been playing sports since I was 4. It's like having my pets, I just couldn't seem me without it!!!!! |

really esco, think about what you posted. you had us think of 12 positive aspects about what we do, and those will make us stop? i didnt think so. Here is a little hint for the next time you decide to help people on a weight training site stop. (or whatever your up to) Have people think of NEGATIVES, that makes people stop. If your trying to help someone stop smoking, do you A: help them think of all the positive aspects it has. Or B: all the negative aspects? Probably B. Nice try man, thx -snow |

I considered what esco said, and I was actually motivated even more. coz I had more than those 12 reasons to workout, the least of them is just to keep fit and stay healthy.Amr |

Hey! Let's be gentle here. I think it was meant in a positive way. Please, right or wrong, respond graciously. You cannot compare working-out to smoking (apples/oranges). |

Esco,Did you expect this kind of response from your question? I didn't mean to bust your balls if that's what it seemed like. The way you posed the question was to matter of fact and deviant though. I can see what you were getting at. You simply wanted everyone who read it to evaluate their goals and will to achieve. I commend you on that. Maybe just put it differently next time. Peace...The HOg. |

I work out because at 441 I want to slow down the aging, get stronger, look better and feel good about myself. That's enough for me! Plus, my wife likes the way I look.Esco, What's up?? |

I can't think of 12 reasons why I do anything, but I can tell you why I exercise:To stay healthy. To be better able to do my job. To maintain mental clarity. So that I'm proud of how I look. Because sedentary people die early. So that I can look down on my teenage daughter's boyfriend and scare the crap out of him when he needs it. It helps my arthritis. It helps keep my cholestrol level down. it feels good to be strong. I've exercised for most of my adult life (I'm 47), and when we live in a time where 33% of all Americans are overweight, I'm proud of that fact. It takes discipline to stick with an exercise program, and this discipline trickles over into other aspects of my life. 12 reasons? OK, maybe I can't come up wth 12, but I'll be exercising until my time is over. |

Not sure why such a DEAD message would resurface but, one has to believe in himself (herself) and what they want to see in themselves when they look in the mirror.Working out is a job, yes, but the outcome of such is SO worth it and hey...does the body good! YOU only need ONE reason to work out............ health! And I'm 44 and I'm probably in better shape than most 18 yr olds. |

Let me think 12 reasons huh? Number one to look better than you do. Number two through six to keep my arms, chest, back and legs in shape. Number seven a sense of self satisfaction. Number 8 to keep my immune system strong. Number 9 to not be looked down upon as judgemental as society is as a person who doesn't take care of themselves. Number 10 to live longer. Number 11 so in 10 years I can still the next girl from underneath your feet because of my looks and my personality. And number 12 so that ediots like yourself can be shown up by someone likemyself who has more dedication to myself than you could fathom. Well I have said my peace! |

1. To be stronger2. To be faster (I play soccer and b-ball) 3. To be attractive to women 4. To make other guys jealous (Ha!) 5. To prevent injuries 6. To feel better about myself 7. To be a better lover (if you know anything about this, then you know that the more flexibility you have, the more positions you can achieve, and the more strength and stamina you have in your upper and lower body, the longer you can go at them!) 8. To have fun (lifting weights is actually fun for me, now that I've been doing it for 2 yrs.) 9. To stay bigger and stronger than my little brother (sibling rivalry!) 10. To GAIN WEIGHT (seems everyone else these days is trying to lose it?) 11. To continue to feel that euphoric state achieved after a hard training session when endorphins are released into the body! 12. And, over-all, to look, feel, and perform better than anyone else. So, since I only look, feel, and perform better than 95% of the world population, my work is not done. I HAVE to keep training-- so, the answer is: I'll stick with it until I'm in the top 1%. There, now you know, and like they say, knowing is half the battle! --Ralph |

The reason I lift/exercise is that I want to be back to where I was before I was pregnant and now that I have, I have set more goals for myself. Once I reach those goals, I plan to have another baby, so I think that I will continue to do this for quite a long time because I do not want to be overweight and I do enjoy it a lot now.-------------- Lisa |

I can't think of twelve reasons, but I'll tell you what motavates me. I want to look like I did before I got married, before I had my baby. I want to wear those tiny little clothes fat people shouldn't and feel that I look good wearing them. Will I continue...I don't know, but I have a habit of doing things long term for no other reason as something to do with my day. I am enjoying myself at the gym, and as long as I see some type of results, I will probably continue to go to the gym. |
