Hmm...it might be potentially stupid anyway, but let me get it underway.
I've a really weird schedule and sometimes I can't even tell what day it is. I work the night shift from 8pm-5am . And then on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I man the fort at the gym . I only have time to do my workouts on MWF and saturday night after I've slept. I lift weights first before I do my hour-long cardio. Is this okay? I know a lot of you advised at least putting in 6 hours between weight training and cardio but I really can't find the time to squeeze it in, since I've so much to do. :( Help please! -------------- The best victories are won not by adversity and brute force. You arent the only one working the graveyard shift 5-5 here *boo*
Anyways I like to lift in the morning than cardio in the evening.....Usually after I lift and try to do cardio, I am to lazy and get sick from it... |
2004/06/30, 01:59 PM
Cupcake pardon me for not shouting. My throat hurts.
You are probably better off opting just to lift vs doing both if you have to chose just one. While cardio burns some fat it primarily benefits the heart as its name suggests. If you lift, you build muscle which in itself burns more calories just by being. If you work in cardio when you can you should be just peachy. You could also do hiit which takes less time. -------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie | |

I can't answer your question, Cupcake, but I can add to it...
I'll be working graveyard for the two weeks after the 4th of July. Until now, I've been working out at 2:30 M-F. When I switch to graveyard (10pm-6am), 2:30 won't be an option. Would it be better to go before or after work? Or is it simply a matter of convenience? -------------- I will never grow up, just old. Jonathan |

I can fit in hiit after weight training..but is there any harm in what I'm doing? I don't run the risk of overdoing it in anyway? because so far, I'm pretty comfortable with it. -------------- The best victories are won not by adversity and brute force. Learn the enemy and overcome it. -cupcake- |

Cupcake that point will get a zillion opinions. Some say cardio right after weight training is counterproductive. Others say better than nothing. You have to judge how your body is reacting. The more overweight you are the less it matters when you do cardio. As you get near your ideal BF% you have to more careful not to burn the hard fought for muscle.
Lance, you did do that boy's homework for him and torpedoed what would have been a masterpiece post. They don't come along very often. I figure they're fair game if they post on the wrong board, have no profile and are declaring a chicken emergency. You will learn, buddy. It just takes practice. I was joking, I think cupcake knows that. To answer her question, I dont overanalyze my cardio and weightlifting. Sometimes I run in the morning and workout in the afternoons. Sometime I workout at lunch and run before dinner. Sometimes I run on the same day that I do legs. I also run when I play softball, football, and basketball. I don't worry about it. I think people get too hung up on this stuff.-------------- Message deleted by moderator due to unsuitable content for this board. |

okay...so here's how I'll play that. since I need to lose about 10% bf, I'll keep on doing that until I reach 5% left to lose and play it by ear. If I feel fatigued in anyway for an extended period of time for no reason, then I'll split them, or stop cardio altogether and stick to weightlifting. after 5%, I'll stick to weight training and diet until I reach 18%.
Thanks everyone. Just needed some opinions :) -------------- The best victories are won not by adversity and brute force. Learn the enemy and overcome it. -cupcake- |
