Well, here's the scoop,
When I was training last night I went to pick up 15lb dumbells to do my lateral raises. When I placed them on the floor in front of me I felt something strain in my lower back to the right. The pain didn't last so I continued my training.
I noticed today that the pain is coming back sporaticly on & off, when I'm sitting. Can some one tell me if this is a nerve or muscle? I don't want to stop training!

it could be either, question for you, when you picked up the weights what was the form you did it in. I am bad at bending over and not bending my knees first to pick things up. (did i word that right? LOL) If that is the case, you probably pulled a muscle. My boyfriend is forever getting on me for that!!!

well the wieghts were on a rack aboutarms legnth down,(I'm 5-7) so I didn't have to bend. Perhaps I didn't bend when I put them on the floor in front of me!

Is there any excersizes you recomend that I should stay away from?

IE: Chest press, laterals, arnold presses, tricep push downs, dbflys, running? push-ups, crunches? lateral pull downs.

Anything that directly works on the lower back, I would stay away from for a few days until you are able to move without discomfort and ease your way back into it again.

You two are to much LOL. They are right take a few days off rest it ice it if needed and take some aspirn. Other than that remmeber that it does not take a lot to pull a muscle in the back so take it easy..though bending slightly over to pick up and place 15lb dumbbelss does not sound like it was the cause...what you describe is most likly a muscle spasm. I get them sometimes from over use, just rest stretch them out and see what happens. If it gets worse go to a doc.

Is it possible its a nerve? or would the pain be much greater? It hasn't bothered me for the last hr or so, and it's a very dull pain.
Thanks for the advice. Some doctors don't understand what we do, if you know what I mean!

if it was a nerve it would be burning kind of pain or pins and needles if the pain persists see a doc thats my 2 cents i am kind of a nerve expert i think lol

Thanks alot for all the input. It definately wasn't a nerve according to jnellie. Must of been a muscle. It didn't bother me at all today and did my full workout.
Free sailing again!
