I have been "working out" since January 5. I started with a personal trainer the second week of March and have had 3 sessions so far. Other than the fact that I think my "25 year old" trainer is trying to kill me =o) I can't wait to see results. I have so much fat to lose that I don't think I am ever going to see muscle LOL, he says I am, but I am beginning to have my doubts!!! I am going to keep working at it, even "if it kills me"!!!

Well, the physical part is about 20% of the battle. Stay consistent and you'll be fine. However, 80% is diet. Hopefully, you have adopted a sound one...?

Good luck!

I am on the diet from 24 Hour Fitness. Right now James (my trainer) is not too happy with the amount of carbs, but he wants me to stay on it for another week or so because of the energy aspect. Then he is going to change it to more protein, less carbs.

Thanks for the encouragement, I really need all I can get! My husband is supportive, but he is in the military and "gets" to exercise a lot!!! =o)

Just make sure you are within your heart rate zone when you are doing cardio and that your training isn't pushing your weights up too rapidly - you will need a little more recovery time than someone in their twenties.
Some trainers mistakenly train new clients by putting them through a workout that they themselves might do.
Ask your trainer what he knows about program design and exercise progression, if he/she gets a blank look on their face you may want to look into switching trainers.
You definitely need to work out hard to get results, but it shouldn't wipe you out completely - you probably have other things to do that require some strength and energy.
Be consistent with eating good clen carbs and lean protein and stay wioth it. Women tend to 'shift' weight for a while before losing pounds - keep it up for six months and you will see the pounds begin to melt off.
Good Luck!

I am really looking forward to that "melt down". Yes, I definitely need the energy, I have a full time job as a Help Desk Analyst and do alterations on the side. I think my trainer is pretty adept at what he does. When I started at 24 Hour Fitness I got 2 free sessions with a trainer and had been doing those exercises until I got with James. Actually James has lowered the weight on some things and upped by reps. I stay well within my target heart rate, usually at top I am about 135. Also, he has me doing exercises with the exercise ball and "core" exercises that I did not do before. Right after a workout I am tired, but not exhausted, and the next morning I feel fine, maybe a little sore but that is it. He always makes sure I "rest" for at least 48 hours before working out again. Otherwise, I just do cardio on those "off" days.

Keep up the good work Deby and the trainer is right. Up the protein and lower the carbs a bit. Keep us posted, you are doing great!

"I'll be back" LOL I will keep you posted. I hope James changes my "diet" because I think all of the carbs are dragging me down. I meet with him again tonight at 7 p.m., I am going to ask him about that because he had originally said let's try the diet with "carbs" for a couple of weeks and this is the end of the second week!!! I am ready!
