I started doing HIIT and have noticed some results in just a couple of weeks of doing it. I was running 5 miles every other day with little results but I am so excited about losing fat that I am wondering if I can do hiit every other day instead of 5 miles?

Every other cardio session should be fine. You can vary the routine within the HIIT routine, also.-------------- Never, never, never, never give up. - Winston Churchill |

Do like Amy says, but do this little variation on your HIIT days. Gets to that deep hard to get to fat.
Do a short warmup, then do your HIIT session for 15 minutes. Be intense. Take a 5 minute break, and then do a 30-35 minute standard cardio session at medium intensity. -------------- Strength and Honor! |

I'm going to go ahead and play devils advocate and question you Ron. Why?
I think I have an idea, but I want to hear what you have to say before I guess as to the reasoning. -------------- Iron and chalk. Pain is only temporary, it is in your mind. If you can still walk, then you can still run. |

The first segment is for mobilization, to get those stubborn fatty acids out of the fat cell.
The second segment is the oxidation part, to burn them off in the muscle. -------------- Strength and Honor! |

This comes from Llyes bodyopus. He just related some feedback with clients using this protocol recently by the way. Direct quote...
BTW - been playing with your intervals plus steady state work. It out performs by about 50% (in terms of fat loss) the same amount of intervals and steady state aerobics done separately. I had clients do : 3 interval sessions (about 15 mins) and 3 aerobic sessions (20 -30)on separate days or 3 mixed sessions (15 mins intervals, 5 min break, 20 mins cardio). Total volume per week was the same. I expected to see a sligth increase in teh 6 days pwe week group (thinking that more exposure would be better). The mixed group on average lost more fat in the 12 weeks than the group doing separate sessions. Totally unscientific I know, but the results were better across the board. -------------- Strength and Honor! |

Sounds good. I think I will take that advice. I remember reading about how you shouldn't do HIIT two days in a row and should only do it a max of 2 or 3 days a week but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the help and for anyone reading about HIIT...I am really starting to see a difference...It really works!
