I read on here about HIIT. Basically bringing your heartrate up then dropping it down and up again. Could you please tell me if I am doing it long enough or right.
I use the Lifefitness treadmill machines. Tonight I put it on for 30minutes, used the manual setting. I went up to an incline of 12. That is not the max but it is still hard to do. My speed was 3.4. So I did it for 5 minutes at this setting. My heartrate went to 163-168. Then I dropped down the incline to the lowest and lowered my speed and did that for 5 minutes. So I altered my speeds back and forth and did it for a total of 30 minutes. Do you think this is the right way of doing HIIT?

I usually do it in shorter lenghts... 30 seconds high speed, then 30 seconds low pace... not sure, but 30 minutes might be too much... 20 should do it I think...

Do 30 second to 2 minute intervals and always recover for as long as you are in the higher zone. I don't watch my heart rate during HIIT, I just go as hard and fast as I can for the up interval and slow it down to recover.

neov3, High Intensity Interval Training is a method of doing your cardio that boosts your base metabolic rate for the day. You end up burning more calories than you would in a standard cardio session, as well as it 'shocks' your body as a change from the norm.
Good to do a few times a week, particularly when fat loss is a goal.. not so good for those trying to build mass.
a good reference was made previously to dave drapers site, excellent explanation and description there.
