Seen this referenced at several posts, unsure what this is, can find no 'search option' at freetrainer.com to locate definition.

I see, I did the same thing on the trendmill. Had a 6 week free visits to local Gym, but just too much money for me to plunk down. Although I do have a bowflex availble to me at home, tried it, after watching the instruction video, but afterwards, my arms were the only thing that hurt, so I felt like, I must be doing the moves incorrectly, needed someone to watch to make sure my form correct. Will try what FT has to provided.

You can also do HIIT by doing some skipping in between the cardio. Great to get up the heart rate! :)

Hey guys just bumped into this little chat and reading up on HIIT. After reading I don't seem to get the full grasp of it still. Could anyone please help explain a little?

Sure.... basically, it's warm up for a couple of minutes... get the heart rate up a tad... then go hard for length of time to get the bpm up to about 85%.. then slow down for a bit...

So, if you're on a bike, pedal like mad for about 30 seconds, then light pedalling for about 30... there are variations... 20 seconds fast, 10 seconds slow... one minute fast, one minute slow.... you only have to do that for up to ten minutes or so... cool down and you're all done! All together it takes about 15 minutes...Give 'em all a whirl...

HIIT is about all I do for cardio just because of the shorter period of time it takes...

Here is an example of a HIIT ramp:

Here is a cardio challenge for you. I love High Intensity Interval Training for lots of reasons, some being that it is something you can do with any type of cardio - equipment or walking/running, jumping rope, etc. And anyone can do it because the intensity is something you control. HIIT is a great way to boost your metabolism and burn fat! It burns mega-calories, and sprints worked into workouts improves your running time, too!
Print this email, cut out the ramp and take with you next time you do cardio - I think you will like how the time just flies by when you do HIIT! If the longer intervals of intensity are too much at first, just do 30 seconds to a minute of high intensity and make sure the recovery period is as long or longer.

An example of a twenty minute HIIT Ramp that I like to do on the elliptical:
Minutes 1 - 4 warm-up low intensity
Minutes 4-5 medium intensity
minutes 5 -6 lower intensity
minutes 6-7 high intensity
minutes 7-8 lower intensity (recover)
minutes 8-9:30 or 10 med-high intensity
minutes 9:30 - 12 medium intensity
minutes 12 - 13 high intensity
minutes 13-14 lower intensity
minutes 14 - 16 high intensity
minutes 16 - 18 med/low intensity
minutes 18-20 high intensity

cool down and recovery 3-5 minutes afterwards.

When is the best time to do HIIT? Before weight training, after weight training, or just doing it on a day when all I do is cardio?
