I started to take some vitamins but they are not doing much. My knees started to hurt cuz i was doing too much cardio.I was doing cardio 45 and weights 5 days a week. but now that my knees hurt i dont and i feel bad. hmm..okay. I think you need to fix your schedule so you set time to devote for yourself aka time for the gym, I'm a convicted workaholic and I still find time to go to the gym 4-5x a week to workout, just takes a couple of hours anyway. You need to:
1. set a goal-i think this is very important.
2. make a conviction that you want this and that you'll get it no matter who says what or who does what to hinder you.
3. fill out a fitness profile so you have exercises to help you to achieve your goals.
4. make time for the gym. get a schedule and follow it.
5. EAT right.
6. Have patience enough to gut it out.

With all that said...Hi Mayris and welcome to ft :):dumbbell:

As far the nutrition side of it, sometimes the only way to get the right foods is to buy them yourself. Have a shelf in the cabinet and some space in the fridge set aside just for your foods, and shop for the things that will help you keep on track. If you slip a little and eat some bad stuff, don't beat yourself up over it, just get back on track and remember the great changes you're initiating. Keep taking the vitamins too....they probably won't have a dramatic effect on your progress, but they are very helpful nonethless. Like cupcake said, set some goals and use one of the programs here....they're very good. Good luck!

vitamins keep me from going bonkers lol. I'd probably end up looking like death warmed over if I stopped taking multi's everyday.

I agree... "Well I already ate that, so I may as well eat this also." It'll get you every time.

You just have to be able to stop, and not feel like a failure for the first one. My wife has a big problem with this. Things end up snowballing on her because she will get more and more dpressed with each thing she adds. I have to almost literally stop her and move her attention to something else. (I've also learned to allow her the Coke so that she'll leave the Ding Dongs and Ho-Hos alone.)

You can do it! Keep up the hard work. If you need encouragement, it's always here. Just look for cupcake, howdiekat, dfly, anni, Veda, et al... They are all great encouragers. And knowing that you'll come back to talk to them will help you when standing in front of a plate of cookies.

Hope it helps,

mayris -
Find some type of exercise you enjoy and do this for your health. Does your gym have group fitness classes - they are fun and motivating. You don't even realize how hard you are working because you are having fun. Try a lower impact one (ask the instructors) until your knees feel better.

Your food is something you have to realize you have control over. Discuss healthier eating with your Mother - maybe she would like some of the health benefits from cooking and eating a little lighter/healthier. A few substitutions and Mexican Food can be very healthy and still delicious.

You are at an age right now where you have more control over what you do with your time, your body and what you eat than you probably ever will again. use it to your advantage. Choose to educate yourself on how to take good care of yourself now, then it will be a habit by the time your life changes and you have other obligations.

Pick one of the beginner programs here under fitness resources, print it out and take it to the gym with you. Ask a trainer to show you how to do things correctly - they shouldn't charge for a basic how-to session. Tell them you don't want to hurt yourself.

Ease back into cardio and try different types that won't stress your knees so much - the recumbent bike (where you sit back in a chair-like seat) is easy on the knees, as are the elliptical trainers. Stay away from running and the treadmill until you have built up your fitness level a little more/or your knees are better. If there is a pool at your gym - water aerobics or swimming are both great ways to exercise without impact.

Come on now - step away from the cookie jar!
Though every once and a while you need a cookie.

Before you put anything in your mouth, ask yourself - will this bring me closer to my goals or farther away?

Bring on the fajitas and low-fat refried beans!!!!

Good luck!

i do take classes. right now take spinning, sometimes i also take kickboxing, and power pump. i think im going to change gyms cuz i do want one with a pool. i think its worth paying a little bit more for the extra pool. i try not to go out and drink as much, but i get bored. So my plan is to go swimming or just to the gym to relax the good thing is that its open 24/7. thanks for the support :)

girl, you need to ease up on those knees. kickboxing, spinning and the lot are particularly stressing your joints. I'd say go with the swimming, it'll be easier on you.

Good to have you here, mayris, and it sounds like you are understanding much of what is creating weight difficulties in your life, you certainly don't have much to lose, I think your profile says 15 pounds, but I know 15 can be as frustrating as 100. You may need to have to adjust portions and maybe, since it sounds like your mom is a good cook, ask her to try some lower fat/carb recipes if you are living at home, if not fill your refrigerator & shelves with things that will do you good as msakl said, or get your own space if at home as he suggests, that can make a world of difference, it gets easier to turn away from the other stuff if you have something you can have that is good and healthy, too.

Good luck to you!

Welcome aboard mayris! I can understand it being hard to adjust and change your eating habits. Especially, because I love authentic Mexican food. My sil is hispanic and she makes the best charro beans. Lucky for me, she lives in TX so I only see her and my brother about once a year.

Take it slow and easy and you will have success in your weight loss. My goal is to lose 15-20 lbs also. Like Veda said, any weight loss can become frustrating. The last pounds are so stubborn to come off. Keep your chin up! Good luck with the new gym and swimming!
