Hi,
I was wondering what the people taking the WSSC Challenge are finding the most difficult. Right now I'm only following the plan and not competing, but I've seen a drastic change in the first week or so, which surprised me seeing as changes should take at least a month (maybe because I was eating so badly before?). Personally, I found that the lifting and cardio nearly everyday was the hardest, due to the fact that I am a beginner. Second would be the diet and trying to stick to only the foods in the permissible food list. Please share your experiences! Thanks, Csix. -------------- Any advice given by me is to be used at your own risk :) |

But don't we only have cardio three times during the week...then on Saturday? Wednesday feels like a day off because I don't have to get to the gym as early...or I can go in the evening just to do abs and cardio (could even do the abs at home). The cardio part seems light to me (and I like it that way). By far the hardest part to me is keeping to the macro ratios. 50% protein is a LOT of protein. And I didn't like dropping the dairy, and still not sure I understand why it's necessary, but I'll stick it out until the end.

I think the hardest part of the challenge is meeting the protein requirements. I am really struggling with that.
And Kathy, yes, cardio is only three times a week. -------------- Bettia "Minds are like parachutes; they work best when open." - Lord Thomas Dewar |

csix - that is great that you are seeing changes already! I think everone in the challenge has gotten results so far.
As a begginner you could train with weight 3 times a week instead if your are finding 4 times too much. DO it like this - M upper body, T cardio, W lower body, Th cardio, F upper body, cardio Sun rest then the next week would be M lower body, T cardio, W upper body, Th cardio, Fr lower body, S cardio Sun rest...and so it would continue alternating like that. i hope that helps! For many people, in any new routine, the biggest challenge is diet. But that is where your biggest results will come, so keep trying to get it right. I have found that I sometimes set myself up for problems by thinking 'this is so hard' when actually, once you figure out your meal plans, it is quite simple to stick with the same foods and amounts and I find eating like this is simple in preparation, too. Grill a bunch of chicken, bake a bunch of fish and potatoes or yams at the same time, pre a bunch of fresh veggies...measure them into containers and you have meals to go, meals on hand, no reason to fail to eat right. Good luck! -------------- Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak. Diet is tricky. Gaining the protein being the hardest part, followed by getting enough good fats. It just feels wrong to be adding fat!
Protein shakes have added to the protein consumption for me, one scoop on my breakfast then a shake with a banana and a spoon of peanut butter before I go to the gym (that helps with the fats). Second hardest thing is doing the abs part. I hate doing abs. I'm weak there and I need to get over that, but as it's hard I want to skip them! Third hardest thing is waiting for the results to show in the mirror. Fourth is not looking at people who are still eating badly and not execising and starting to tell them all about protein and what it does! Jon |

The hardest part is having to stand on the sidelines and not being able to join in:(

I like that the work-out routines make me sore; its sort of an indicator for me of exercise and growth. Does competition motivate you during this challenge? Do you like the results so far?
Also, why can't you join in flyonthewall? (if its personal, feel free not to answer) Thanks, Csix. |

I'm not sure the competition element is my motivator, ultimately with getting fit or losing weight you are working with and for yourself at your own rates. It does help to know that you are sharing the experience with others, it means you have a reason to keep going and a support group when you need it.

Hi,
The stickies at the top of this forum (General Exercise and Weight Training) have the information about the WSSC Challenge. I think the Challenge is a set exercise and diet plan that members compete against each other for most decrease in weight, inches, e.t.c. I'm not so much motivated by competition, since I really don't have a chance of winning, but more by being part of a group. It is more fun knowing I'm not in this alone--and I'm not going to let anyone show me up as far as completing the workouts, following the diet. I won't win, but I still give it my all.
