I've been considering for a while to get a "Gym Ball" i would like to know if they work (if it is worth it)...or is it just another "funny" for this market? What areas does the ball target. In fact, any info would be great.

No, it is not another gimmick. The Swiss ball is a great piece of equipment that you can always use. For abs, it is great, will really strengthen the core ab muscles that even weighted crunches won't get. Also, great for doing benches, pulleovers, flies, etc. I have actually seen people do their entire workout on them, with heavy weights! And these were people who have trained for quite some time. I started my wife out using it and some free weights, and she did great! Storing is a bit of a problem! rather large....the kids love it though!

maybe we should look into investing one ravenwolf, since we work out at home. I heard it is really good, like bbfit said, for strengthening the core muscle. I know last year when we used it in our training it worked my abs like they've never been worked before! And I love to do ab work!

You do have to be careful with them when you start to do your workout on them other than abs. They are, after all "round". Now this is not meant fecitiously, it is just meant as a word of caution to get your balance and footing planted correctly or you can guess the consequences. But it will help you get a great workout. They usually come with a sheet that shows a bunch of different exercises to use with it. Good luck.
