Not necessarily, there are some who just like to grunt I believe. The only time I do this is when I am on that final "extra" rep sometimes, after I cannot do anymore, yet do 2 more anyway. Then I may "grunt" on that last one.

Ugh, talk about grunting, go to a powerlifting competition! Grunting, screaming, yelling.... sometimes it sounds like a bad horror flick!

Some guys grunt, some don't. Some guys feel like it helps them, some guys do it semi-consciously, some guys do it just to show off and draw attention. I exhale loudly, but nothing more. Don't worry if you don't do it.

lifting is like sex, the more noise you make the more fun it is.

My opinion? I absolutely HATE when guys do that! Its very distracting for my workout. Our gym discourages grunting. *waves hello to everyone since its been AGES since I've posted!*

Oh and I find it rather sexy LOL but I do agree that you got different kinds of grunting; the "sexy Oh my dear" ones, the "I'm here" ones, the "I'm gonna kick a$$" ones and of course the "SOS and fast!" ones........ (other suggestions?!! ;o)
I work out with a guy. He's rather strong so sometimes I make him lift heavier than he often believes he can himself. Then he starts grunting like a bear lol and always wanting to kick the dumbbell (or machine) after.
It's just too hilarous.........
